TSN: Matthew Knies isn’t really interested in entertaining an offer sheet this summer. That’s not something he or his agent are pursuing

Honestly his best bet is to sign a 3 year bridge at 5-6M with the Leafs until Matthews' deal is up.

He'll put up big numbers and then can decide what to do after. If Matthews leaves, he can either stay and be the "guy" with a monster deal in Toronto, or get one somewhere else. If Matthews stays he can keep doing what he's doing, or go be the "guy" somewhere else.

If I was San Jose though, I'd offer sheet him.

Tavares would have to take no more than 5M and Knies needs to be bridged 6M or less in order to fit Marner at 13M. That's also with Jarnkrok being traded. Money is tight at the 6

What... an ... ass!

We are going to have somewhere in the world of 28 million in cap space right now to fit in extensions before we even talk about trading anyone out if we decide we want too. We could sign Marner at 13 million and still comfortably sign Knies and Tavares.

26.8M but Leafs still have to sign 3 guys to meet 21 man roster. Even if they sign league minimum it's still tight. It's doable but Marner has to not take more than 13M, Knies 6M and Tavares 5M.

We could go 11mx7years. Cap is going way up, expensive now but reasonable on backend. Our picks will be late firsts.

Really want that player.
He’s a player to covet but I would guess Toronto feels the same way . It’s likely they get something done way prior to even being eligible. I’d guess a bridge or something 8 ish on a longer deal

Listen to my reasoning: If we could get Knies it takes away need for top 2 center. Which are near impossible to acquire. Montreal could use a good #3 there until Hage is ready. Playing between two studs like Knies and Demidov a good #3 center is still a lights out line.

We have 11 million in caproom this summer. So, there is room there. Montreal is a playoff team but adding Knies their pick will be late first. We have Calgary pick this year so we can cover some of those firsts. The 16 is generally worth 2 30 overall picks.

Another part could be offering Bennett 10m also. After July 1 Habs could get a team to take Price contract.freeing up the 10m necessary. July '26 Hutson is up for big increase but Laine be off the books. We have that covered. July '27 Demidov will be big increase but cap will go up by then. We have it covered.

Adding both Knies and Bennett Habs are a Cup contender.

Knies is not going to be a Hab. Sorry to burst your bubble!

I don’t think you are getting the concept of rfa vs ufa . There is an extremely small chance he reaches July 1 st without a deal and an even smaller chance he’d sign an offer sheet from the Habs . Sorry to burst the bubble as they are already working on / close to a deal as we sit today reputedly

somebody will make a big offer to force Toronto's hand...there is no doubt , make Toronto pay more than they want or can having to get others signed.

Was he supposed to say "yeah, I'm totally looking to sign one" ?
He could have said "I am just focused on hockey right now, I will let my agent figure that stuff out" you know...not say he wants to stay in Toronto and that he isn't interested in an offer sheet lol do people think he was forcibly made to say he wants to stay in Toronto or something?

Because that is what you're supposed to say especially when your "TEAM" is heading into the play-offs.
He doesn't want to be a distraction and he gave the best response as a good teammate.

Sure. Hilarious how people can twist themselves into hearing someone say "I do not want to leave this team" to still mean he wants to leave that team  you want him to leave the Leafs.
