TSN: Matthew Knies isn’t really interested in entertaining an offer sheet this summer. That’s not something he or his agent are pursuing

I am confused, you clicked on a thread where Knies/his team leaked to an insider that they aren't interested in exploring an offer sheet and your conclusion is he said nothing? Nothing would have been...not doing that. People are so wildly desperate for bad things to happen to the Leafs they will twist themselves around in a million different directions.
What? lol

I think he'll sign with the leafs and this whole conversation is kind of ridiculous.

The perceived desperation is just projection from you I guess. I don't care about the leafs positive or negative  I'm saying he gave a boilerplate answer, which if anything is pro-leaf

exactly. Silence would be worse--he'd be badgered about it endlessly and it's not a great time for distractions.

This logic doesn't work because Marner and Tavares are in the same boat and both have taken different stances. Tavares said he wants to stay like Knies, Marner has said no comment.

So why can Marner do it but not Knies? We wouldn't even flinch if he said no comment

I'm a bit confused with the Leafs cap structure tbh. I see a lot of people saying the Leafs can re-sign all 3 of Marner/Tavares/Knies if they want. How?

From what I can see, they've got 27M in cap this summer. Marner for 13.5 + Tavares for 8M gives them 5.5 left to fill 6 roster spots. Knies could easily sign a 7M offer sheet x 4 years for example.

Who could they trade to open up space? One of the dmen I guess?

People saying they can re-sign Marner/Knies/Tavares are Leaf blowers, impossible. Marner wants to go to UFA and will likely be the highest paid NHL player, and who can blame him. If Marner leaves, then Tavares stays. If Marner stays Tavares leaves. Knies stays in either scenario.

Kampf and Jarnkrok is 4.5 that can be replaced for 1.5mil worth of Marlies or bargain bin UFAs with no downgrade. If that’s not enough, Domi and Benoit is another 5.1.

Tavares is not staying here for 8. It’s simple. Even then they could. They would just have to unload one of Kampf/jarnkrok/domi.

You can in theory easily sign all 3. Go to puckpedia.

He says that now until he gets a low offer by Pizza lad that really makes him feel disrespected, then suddenly…”Matthew Knies signs offer sheet…”
Sure, he might become interested at any point. Also, there is definitely a number that the Leafs won't match.

What? Marner and JT are UFA at the end of the season. Knies is still under team control for a while. Not sure where you are not seeing the difference?

Did you misread the exchange? I am confused.
Obviously. Knies is in a totally different contract situation. Him throwing flowers at the Leafs means jack shit. The first indication of what he wants will be the term of his next deal, not what he says. Marner and JT are in totally different situations. What they say probably gives better indication of what they want. JT doesnt want to leave because he's old and settled and Marner is likely gone. Not that hard

The point was, Marner said nothing when asked. Tavares said he wants to stay. Knies could have done either of those two things and no one raises an eyebrow. The fact he said he wants to stay is probably a good indication otherwise just say you are focused on the season and again, no one cares.

No it isn't, for the reasons I already explained. If Knies says nothing, it will raise an eyebrow more than a boilerplate loyalty comment his agent fed him. If next term expires before UFA, Leafs should worry.

I like how him coming out and saying he wants to stay and isn't interested in an offer sheet just does not matter to the same people who were creaming themselves over the possibility of him being offer sheet'd in the off season lol it is so transparent it isn't even funny anymore.
