TSN: Matthew Knies isn’t really interested in entertaining an offer sheet this summer. That’s not something he or his agent are pursuing

As for the OP- yeah, that could be true, but it's also what I, or my agent, would say publicly, while in private, my job is to get the most money for my client(and myself).

You can't believe half of what agents, and GM's say.
It is the agents job to represent the player and advocate in their best interests. That doesn't always mean chasing every last dollar.

He says that now until he gets a low offer by Pizza lad that really makes him feel disrespected, then suddenly…”Matthew Knies signs offer sheet…”

Jesus

This place is insane, there's no way in hell an offer sheet is going to work

Knies is a 30 goal, 60-70 point 22 year old power forward, the Leafs have cap space and can match anything coming in so I ask you how much are you going to have to offer him before the Leafs balk?

Probably 4 1sts, to pay him 11M

Still keen?

Has to be 11.4 mill or more to get the four 1sts. 11 mill is two 1sts, 2nd, 3rd

True... but money is a major factor when it comes to negotiations, no matter the kind(or not) words said in public.

Money obviously is a factor...I do find it interesting how many people are just assuming he is lying though? Like a player like Marner is obviously driven by money. At no point did he come out and put water on the idea of offer sheets when he was an RFA. Knies could have just said nothing...he didn't he decided to put this out there and people's response is "yeah well doesn't matter he is lying" lol

My understanding offersheets are calculated off a 5 year term. So if you go 7 years, the AAV is calculated over 5 years so even something like 9x7 would qualify for 4 firsts

" There are seven tiers when it comes to offer sheet compensation that is entirely based on the AAV of the offer sheet. "

Most people won't add the years because the whole point of the offer sheet is to make it so even if the opposing team matches the player walks to free agency ASAP.

This has been talked about extensively on our board, but the bottom line is that the Leafs would rather overpay Knies than lose him for picks unless some team is insane enough to offer a 4 1st round pick sort of deal and Knies is absolutely not that caliber of player. That said, he isn't realistically replaceable either. He belongs here and we will keep him.

I care infinitely more about retaining this player than retaining Marner, a player superior to Knies on paper.

Exactly. Knies is the priority signing going into next season. If we lose Marner, so be it.

He’s one of 3 players league wide with 50+ points and 150+ hits. Players like that are unicorns.

The other two are Brady T, and Tom Wilson.

Knies is something the leafs have lacked the last almost 20 years.

Slafkovsky will also reach 50pts and 200+ hits. Is he an unicorn too?

I do get your point though, but not sure he's worth what some posters say he will get.

Never believe anything that is said regarding contract negotiations, ever. Having said that, I have not seen the Leafs lose RFAs to offer sheets. Offer sheets are really rare because what comes around goes around. It would be fun if every team were required to make one offer sheet offer per year, but I digress. There is nothing to see here. If it's unresolved in August, then maybe start thinking about it.

That's exactly what he did lol

Unless you mean give the reporter the silent treatment
I am confused, you clicked on a thread where Knies/his team leaked to an insider that they aren't interested in exploring an offer sheet and your conclusion is he said nothing? Nothing would have been...not doing that. People are so wildly desperate for bad things to happen to the Leafs they will twist themselves around in a million different directions.
