Better goal scorer? Sure. Overall? Nah. He has a marginally better point total this year despite playing with four point-per-game forwards and getting time with them on one of the league’s top power plays. And he’s a year and a half older. His point totals would be lower than Slafkovsky’s if he was on MTL.

He’s a really good hockey player, his progression is impressive, and he’s gonna cost an arm and a leg now because of it.

I can see him getting around 9m x 8 type deal, which certainly means marner is gone, which most people are expecting anyway

Knies has been really great this year. It just sucks that he had his significant offensive improvement in his contract year which means its going to cost way more than last year when he had 15 goals and 35pts. Good for him, sucks for the Leafs and their cap. Kinda blows that the Leafs seem to usually have to overpay to keep their best players. Just once I'd like to see a player sign a fair deal with the team.
