Player Discussion Matthew Knies | Built for the Playoffs

A team which would struggle to make da playoffs but then win a Cup .. too many pretty boys on our team who aren't willing to sacrifice to win .. winners win losers lose

Same song and dance every year...

They brought in a lot of players that are not "pretty boys" and they were some of the worst performers.

Shockingly, the guys scoring in the playoffs right now are skilled first and foremost... skill still wins.

Bennett was a loser, Tkachuk was a loser, Marchand was a loser for the last little bit... all the players performing needed to change scenery to win or perform well.

We played Ottawa in the first round and 2 and 3 goals were all the dynamic duo had for the entire playoffs?

The dynamic duo (at least one of them) assisted on every single one of Knies' goals and they both produced way more than Knies.

For anyone arguing that goals > assists with that big of a point gap... please tell me McDavid is not the best in the world.

I would really like to get Knies on an 8 year deal, if only to continue to break the cycle of core guys signing short term deals. I’ve had it with this crap of 6, 5, and 4 year deals at high cap hits. Rielly and Nylander signed for 8 years while Auston and reportedly Mitch are going shorter. Would be great if Knies were to follow the former two core players listed instead of his linemates.

Marchand won a Cup and has been to da finals .. he was never a loser .. you need a few of these guys to form
DEPTH of lineup to win .. and you can't pay them HUGE CAP hits before they done anything .. we have erred in all those aspects of team building

Matthew Knies has been eliminated from the playoffs for almost a month now and he’s got 2 fewer goals than Connor McDavid. For a 22 year old sophomore most people would be pretty happy with that, but you know better.

I know better than you, that's for sure.

But outside of that, do only goals matter?

Is Knies on the same level as McDavid because of goals?

Knies played well, he was the 3rd best player on his line though.

Should go take a look at those 5 assists on the Knies goals. Real elite playmaking there and such hard work by Marner.

He’s 22 years old on a rookie deal and you’re finding ways to diminish him. Theres just helluva lot going on here.

I'm just trying to find consistency in people's logic, and yours in particular is very hard to find.

Isn’t it a smart idea to sign players before playing with elite forwards ?

It’s crazy management keeps making the same mistakes

I'd rather they set up the team to win, but yes, I think that should be taken into consideration when signing players.

I think Knies is going to get overpaid for what he's done based on his size/power forward style, not that though.

This board is a good example... Marner got paid after being the highest scoring player on the team and putting up amazing numbers while driving his own line, now Knies is going to get a big number (less than Marner) and people will be fine with it. The gap in play will be bigger than the gap in the number, but Knies is a more fan-friendly style, so it will be accepted.

It’s about the playoffs and how you perform. So far, Knies has performed well and might keep getting better. Marner had ample opportunity and failed every time. And, he was performing worse now than he did 8 yrs ago.
Personality is also a factor.

Size is also a factor. He's proven no one can handle him physically. And he's gonna get stronger lol.

I love Knies but if he wants to milk us, trade him. It has to end. It just has to end. I wish we didn't trade all those firsts right now is a good time to rebuild and correct the mistakes of the past.

They won't though, they'll bury the franchise deeper so we have 15 years of darkness to recover after management is fired.

If I am him, I sign an 8-year deal and continue to get the same love from the fan base while swimming in sponsorships.

Matthews didn't do it, and continues to get love from the fans and swims in sponsorship. Knies will never get as much as Matthews, but now he's supposed to sacrifice his hockey money too? lol
