Confirmed with Link: Matthew Coronato extends for 7 years, 6.5m AAV

Coronato: I’m asking for 6.75x7. It’s a fair deal.

Connie: Kid, you are a great young player. I ever tell ya back in the day when I first played with Iggy and his response when I dumped the puck in on the first shift? Man, it was a doozie. But it was that day that I learned….

And then we got to 2004 and had that sick playoff run. Seeing the fans and Gelly’s sick goal scoring talent opened my eyes to what was possible…

And then, I was stranded in Red Deer while all the LA players headed back! But anyways, best I can do is 6.5x7. But I promise I’ll stop talkin…

Coronato: Done!

Great work haha

Tidy piece of business. That should be a bargain in a year or two.

Excellent deal. Good for Coronato and the Flames, no mucking around with bridges or long negotiations that go into training camp.

Wonder if we get Zary signed soon to something similar. Get them signed early without bridge to avoid the $9-10 mil contract (if these guys ever pop that big).

Before the 2 knee injuries this year, I would have said yes, because of those I think we should do a 1-year bridge with Zary

Yeah there is definitely an argument for both sides (bridge because of the injuries v long term gamble that he'll be healthy and improve).

Maybe Coronato's side wanted to be able to negotiate again at age 29, not age 30. Time for one more large contract.

Yeah, I think 7 years is good for both sides, he'll be 29 instead of 30 so if he is still a good player we can pay him when he is 36 opposed to 37 (if we go 8 years then), but this is years away so no need to dwell.
