Yea he seems to take a disproportionate amount of heat for some reason?
It’s a really tough job to learn on the fly. Go back and look at how bad (and terrified) Brashier was as a young fighter breaking in and he ended up being one of the more accomplished of all time at that specific task.
One big difference I haven’t seen people mention is that the most successful fighters seem to have a legitimate mean streak, which I don’t really see in Rempe. Brashear had a horrific upbringing and has legit anger issues. Not that that’s necessarily a prerequisite for being a good fighter, but you have guys like Wilson or Gallagher who seem to hit a switch when they drop the gloves, personally I don’t see that with Rempe.
To me he would be best cast as a 4th liner who can agitate, be a monster on the forecheck, lay big hits and still chip in on offense and be a net front presence. Someone who can fight as needed to deter the other team but that’s not his main identity.
Hopefully he gets some serious minutes in Hartford this year to cultivate those skills so that when he’s back up with the big club he can play a more meaningful role.
