As long as the rules allow for violence, intimidation is a factor in hockey!

Always been. Damn, the history of NA hockey can be read as the continious attempt to regulate the violence of the game!

Players had to DIE! (tbf it's the very early 20th century) until we banned high sticking! And even that took time. First it was not higher than shoulder, then decades later not higher than the hip!

He's intimidating because he injured players with illegal hits several times in only a few dozen games. Unless he learns how to fight better, and if he starts throwing hits properly, he won't keep that same intimidation factor. A punch in the face isn't a deterrent for a player who won't drop the gloves. And against those willing to fight him and stand up for their teammates, he's not the threat he could or should be. And sadly, one hit with his elbow too high is all it's going to take to get suspended 15-20 games.

Rempe plays a few games cleanly, scores a nice goal, sets up a goal with a nice pass, it's not time for victory laps. I'm not anti-Rempe, but let's not set the bar that low, that he makes a few hockey plays, like, you know, a hockey player, and now he's a sure thing. Don't get me wrong, love to see it. But he's a raw player still refining his game, getting physically stronger, and learning how to play. His presence usually does improve the team, that's not much of a debate anymore, but he's still got a lot of room to improve himself. Once he can make certain aspects of his game more consistent, put it all together, that's something special and worth celebrating. It might happen, it hasn't happenened yet.

I love the simplicity of how Carrick, Edstrom and Rempe play in the offensive zone. They're using their tools well, and I don't see any reason why it's not going to keep getting good results.

Rangers history is trying to figure skate their way to championships around bigger and tougher teams. Now we have the biggest MFer in the league and some of our fans would rather him sit for who, exactly? You can't tell me he cant play in the NHl and expect to have that opinion respected. he clearly can, as long as he cuts out the dumb shit. I blame that on the lack of coaching and leadership around him primarily anyway. He's a 21 year old kid, asked to be the sheriff of a team of soft malcontents, no wonder he isnt sure what he's doing.

He has played two consecutive years in the AHL without running into a lot of trouble. The two particularly bad hits were Siegenthaler and Heiskanen. I think to some degree his entrance on the scene---the Rempemania of last year worked against him. Some of his penalties seem to come from size/reputation and IMO a 10 game suspension for a hit on a player who came back and finished the game and then didn't miss any was right over the top. The NHL sending him a message? Players get hurt with bad hits all the time and no message at all.

He's going to have to live with and adapt to being a target of the league.

As far as the physicality----his hitting is more valuable than any fights he gets into. The way a player learns to fight well though is to fight the best which is what he pretty much does and a young player who does that is not always going to win. Most fights end up with no clear winner though.

He is a work in progress in pretty much everything he does. From last year to this his skating and board work have improved. He moves the puck better. Forechecking hard is always going to be a big part of his game. In the offensive zone when he's not battling along the walls and in the corners he's usually in front of the net which is exactly the things he needs to do and where he should be. Play away from the puck needs a bit of work---smarter cleaner hitting. He's made strides from last year as a players and I expect he'll make more strides next year.
