My big concern is his current status and the pressure of this market. I think it's a high risk move on someone that was a good tender. If it were a bet, I think the odds are against his success here vs. a low stress market.

No doubting what he was (although 50 GP is his career high thus far). Unfortunately, that period was a decent amount of time ago and we've acquired him for what he's going to be moving forward. I wish I could be as optimistic as I'd like to be about this. Right now, it's a matter of believing in him as a starter; a starter to the tune of a rather expensive cap hit when the overall situation in that regard is quite tight.

I mean he’s not all completely gone. He put up a solid stretch of 10-11 games from
January - February 2022 where he was absolutely lights out. When he was healthy I thought he was actually average/decent. I wish him well, but not against Ottawa.

Everybody is capable of bouncing back, especially at 28, my real issue is banking our entire season on a project and a hope, i greatly dislike that.

I'm going to go positive and hope that he puts it together again, because the alternative is that this massive gamble from Dubas has ruined another year with this core.

Of all the (super legitimate) things to be worried about with Murray, I don't think this is one of them. If he can deal with the extreme pressure of back to back finals, I'm sure he can deal with a fickle fanbase and a stupid ass media.

But who knows. Either way, my expectations are low, but there's definitely some stuff to be slightly optimistic about.

Yes, I believe Murray can bounce back in Toronto.

I also believe Dubas did not take advantage of the situation enough under the circumstances.

That's what happens when you are painted into a corner. Worse, they have little cap space in the most intense market in the NHL on a team that hasn't won a single round in nearly 20 years nor even seen a Finals in 55.

I hope Murray is the positive "I will show you sobs" type of warrior.

Stupid poll without the salary.

What does the salary have to do with your confidence in him as a goalie? Would I prefer his salary to be lower, absolutely. But I think Murray can and probably will be a good goalie next year. I still think it’s an awful trade because they should have pushed for 50% retained or at least got a better sweetener.

But Murray will be fine. Toronto goalies usually have decent regular seasons. Can he win in the playoffs again like he did it Pittsburgh is yet to be seen. Only saving grace is unlike the other goalies he’s actually gone deep and the playoffs and won. So he knows what it takes.

If Ottawa buys him out, which was their only choice, no one would sign him for $4.7m per season for 2 seasons.

Dubas is an idiot and got absolutely hosed here.

This is going to be even more of a disaster than the Mrazek signing and the Foligno trade…..

I don’t love the trade but how did Dubas get hosed? We got free assets. That’s a win, obviously we should have gotten more. But it’s not really a loss per say. It’s just an underwhelming deal realistically.

This team has been hoping for the best with their goalies, rather than going with sure-fire situations, since Reimer, and having it not work out in the end. I wouldn't expect anything less with this team. If Murray is the back up to some other goalie and he can steal the starter position, consider me pleasantly surprised.

Like the player, like the gamble, hate the cap hit, hate the deal

Murray @ 2 years was the best option available IMO.

I agree, Keumper has fuTure LTIR candidate written all over him. The guy probably needs eye surgery in the near future. Campbell on a long term deal is probably a bad idea. Gibson would cost too much, Husso is unknown. At least Murray has a winning pedigree.

I just wish it was at 50% retained

Goaltending has become a crapshoot league wide. Gambling in high potential isn’t a bad idea. Not leaving cap room for a reliable backup is a bad idea.
