Matt Murray has done the impossible and escaped Robidas Island. Will play first NHL game since 2023.

Had no idea he was under contract

My god is this league desperate for goaltending

He was signed to be a vet #3. His play will determine if that was a bad idea or not. No downside for Toronto, potentially a lot of upside.

How many teams have a 2x cup champ who was the starting goalie for those cups as a #3 who is still in his prime years?

Buffalo doesn't go to the net, so any nets off the moorings will be a little obviously self-inflicted. Hope Matt can save Tage Thompson one timers from the hashmarks. That is the only play we have had for about 3 years now.

The crowd should be about 80% Leafs fans, and probably more electric than a normal Leafs home game.
Kicking myself for not making the trek. Frigen miss Buffalo.

But, but, but I was told Murray's placement on LTIR was fraudulent and he was taking a dive to help Toronto while the league was looking the other way.

He was actually hurt? No way.
Murray got hurt everytime his game goes in the toilet. Frequently. This guy has pulled him self more than Mike captain hook Keenan likes to pull goalies.
He gets hurt during national anthems.

It is a sign that you’re a bad team when your opponents play their backup against you.

It is a sign that you’re the Buffalo Sabres when your opponent plays Matt Murray against you in the year of our lord 2024.

Coming back and leading the TML to a ECF would be the ultimate redemption arc for him.

I am secretly rooting for him.

😂

He's about to get lit up. He's very mentally and physically fragile.

I still have a soft spot (and a very expensive signed limited edition poster) for Matt.

Start planning the b2b parades...

Pittsburgh fans used to have (still do?) a poor opinion of the Penguins’ medical team. Exhibit A was Crosby’s soft tissue neck injury diagnosed as a concussion. Maybe part of MM’s injury issues is on them? Murray is an easy guy to root for.

2-0 TML after one period.

Leafs Fans: Why does everyone hate us?

Also Leafs Fans: Here's a main board thread about our 4th string goalie starting tonight
