If it was up to me, I would have Woll play virtually every single game while Stolartz is out. To your point, the guy has to show that he can be a starter.
Let him earn his money. He should be wanting to play more, not hiding. Step up, or step asìde. They tried this nonsense with Murray before. Now Woll is a part time NHL goalie.

The silly thing about all of this is that Woll can absolutely play a full workload. Worst case, if he gets injured because he played 5 games in a row, then at least you have your answer on him.

I don't mind giving Woll a heavier load but not when he doesn't have a real NHL backup.

Woll has also never played more than 37 games in a season at any level of hockey since college.

It could very well be this season, just make sure there's a safety net in place first.

You won't get much better than Hildeby as a #3 . Murray has been good with the Marlies too. I'm not sure what expectations we have for a #3 goaltender on the depth chart. Maybe the Leafs just need to play better infront of their goaltenders?
If not now, when?
This is when you need him, as a young goalie he should be demanding to play not allowing Murray to take his job

Well if he breaks down the next time you start him back to back you’ll be using Murray and Hildeby a lot more over the next 3 weeks. So I would re-emphasize NOT NOW.
Yes now, if he cannot do it now, as a young man, he will never do it. He should ge playing every game, we need warriors not part timers. We need a team in front of him to love him, to defend for him. If we continue to play Murray and Hildbey, we will lose anyway.
If he gets hurt you will have a month + of nothing but Hildeby and Murray.
At this point Woll is already playing everything but back to backs. Pushing him to do more than that is just dumb. Especially when the potential downside if he gets hurt.
1967, 57 yrs. Playing it safe to be close is not important. We cannot give half our games to goalies with .879 save %. If he gets hurt so be it...
Your solution to this would lead to all of our games being played by goalies with sub .900 save %.
No teams play goalies in back to backs anymore. In the extremely rare cases it happens it’s basically an emergency and they certainly don’t do it regularly especially with have man back to backs we have.
Ok, if he doesn't play on consecutive nights he drill plays 3/4 of the games...he needs to become a big boy...not a college goalie. Good goalies in this league play 65 games min...not 30. He has an opportunity to step up...the back ups cannot help us win.
He has played everything but back to back since Stolarz went down.

I think the complaining stems from the fact that a #3 goalie usually is not as good as a #1 or #2. Watching Murray allow two goals that our top 2 goalies would usually save leads us to frustration. I guess we should find a better #3 but who in the league has that kind of depth?
After this weekend, I believe we play every 2nd day...Woll should play each one to get a gauge on whether he is durable enough to play 50-60 games a season.

After a back to back this weekend no more back to backs till after the 4 Nations crap. There's 18 games left by my count. Wonder how many games Woll can handle?
What does that have to do with the fact that Woll has played everything but both halves of back to backs since Stolarz went down.

I just want our best goalie on the ice every game...period. No AHL guys with 879. Not a has been injury prone wet dream who no one else wants.
Year 57. Stand up and be counted if you want to be # 1. His chance is NOW. Just stand up, take control and by the time Stolarz is back we know who we have. This is not a blue Jay pitching staff.

No, we need to build up his workload like a fragile starting pitcher and hope he builds up his durability, while having the support of a strong tandem partner, aka the way it was designed.
You can stress test him all you want based on emotion and some kind of idea of now or never, but if you mess him up and he’s out 4-6 weeks tweaking his whatever on a routine shot while Stolarz is out you’re going to be using Murray and Hildeby out of necessity and then you are truly f’ed.
He’s also signed for the next few years so your timeline is entirely artificial. He could steal the job from Stolarz down the stretch. It could be next year.
