Let me get this straight.

You want a expansion-exempt 21-year-old fairly-established top-4 two-way RHD who plays an effective shot-suppression game for a 33 year-old non-exempt LW making $6M/per that doesn't play top-line minutes?

No. No. Nope. Not interested.

You forgot the part where the 33 year old was a 4th liner all last year who had 21 points in 81 games. :D

If anything we add one of our D prospects.

Nah, Carolina is deep in D prospects, so adding a "D prospect" doesn't really do anything to the value of this for them.

Faulk (24), Murphy (23), Slavin (22), Pesce (21), Hanifin (19) at the NHL level and Carrick (22), Fleury (20), McKeown (20), and Bean (18) in the system.

You could probably move Moulson for a dman. But not a guy like Slavin or Pesce.

Bailey or Baptise might make sense as centerpieces for McKeown or Fleury. But would Carolina trade a roster defensemen for an ELC winger?

Going to take a lot better Centerpieces for the Canes recent #7 OA pick (think Nylander) or their best RHD prospect.

Canes aren't interested in moving Pesce. I'm glad everyone wants him, but the Canes have no reason to move him unless someone is overpaying with a legit 1st line talent with more than Pesce going the other way. He's a solid 2nd pairing, all-situations defenseman with 6 more guaranteed cost-controlled years.

When I look at the Canes in the long-term, I see the makings of a strong supporting cast up front with the likes of Skinner, Rask, Staal, Aho, Lindholm, TT and then prospects like Roy, Gauthier, Saarela and Kuokkanen. What I don’t see is a leading actor; the Canes are missing a long-term offensive centerpiece, imo. In order to get that player, the Canes will probably either have to have an off-year and get lucky with the lottery (i.e. Nolan Patrick) or trade for him.

Pesce is not valuable enough to be the centerpiece in a trade for that guy. However, Noah Hanifin may potentially be. In that case, Pesce wouldn’t be expendable. So, I think the organization needs to wait and see before making a decision on how to clear up the incoming log-jam on the blueline.

OP is rough. Like really terrible.
But what about something like Fasching or Baptiste and Ullmark for Pesce?

Strictly value wise does it work?

Strictly value wise your still miles off. Canes entire trade a good your defenseman who they know fits well in this league for unproven players.
