Leafs For Life*

Sorry mods if this shouldn't be a single thread but would rather some quick answers.

Is this guy getting overrated or is he a really valuable piece? I don't pay much attention to him honestly, so I don't know how he is been, so I am surprised by in the Trades/FA talk how for tyutin/Giordano with a small plus the other teams would do it. Does he have top potential?? Since I was still valuing him as a late-1st type.

Well Finn was at one point a pretty high first round pick that fell in the draft, most likely due to scouts seeing limited offensive potential in him and then he decided he wanted to score this year and put up good points before being injured so I'd say he's got solid potential and I could see him turning into quite a good player...

He has really solid potential. Could definitely become a top 4 Dman.

But he has the same genes as Carlo Coliacovo, so lets just hope he stays healthy. (They are cousins)

Top 4 potential for sure, and I believe he will be a very good 2nd line d-man in the future. He missed most of the season with mono , it's not like he's injury prone already. Plus some dumbass goes knee on knee with him , not really his fault.

In time, will be a good player
Had a good year until the injuries and mono
Still a steal IMO

Love this kid. Great all around game. Does a little bit of everything.

i have seen him play numerous times, my take:

- doesn't really make mistakes and plays 25 minutes a night for Guelph
- will be in the OHL next year, hopefully a healthy season for him
- limited offensive potential but does make a decent first pass
- limited physical game
- dependable
- skating needs work to move to the pro game
- could translate to 4-5 d-man in the NHL

I would like to second this while adding in that what impressed me most about him is that he creates offence without sacrificing defence. Don't know if his offence is strong enough to carry over into the nhl, but should still be a decent defenceman

I agree with mostly everything except I say he could be a 3-4 dman in the NHL. Strong character and a high hockey IQ. Like Carlyle says, he can give you "safe" minutes. But with this injury riddled season I'd say he needs another year of junior and then 2-3 years in the AHL before taking the next step. As long as we don't throw him into the NHL too early and allow him to get accustomed to the pace and the systems in the AHL, he could end up reaching his potential.

Just sucks that between mono and that stupid knee on knee hit, I couldn't see him as much as I wanted to this year.

He has the hockey IQ / well rounded skill set where he can definitely become a top 4 D in the NHL. Too bad about the injuries though, next year should be big for him, since again he'll be a #1 being used in all situations, hopefully without injuries.

Great player. The Leafs did really well getting him where they did. The mono he had really hindered his game for a while. Could be a very dependable 3-4 in the future for Toronto.

Only seen him a couple times(none live) but I have pretty high hopes for him. I would be disappointed if he doesn't become a top 4 dman

Mono is one thing but the knee injury is another. He's going to need another two years in the OHL I think. First he needs to regain some size/mass he undoubtedly lost from mono and then also the strength from the knee injury.

Poor guy... I can't even imagine. He's probably super discouraged too.

He has the make to me a solid 2nd pairing dman, he just needs to bust his ass even harder now. I don't think he'll be NHL ready for another 5 years, but that's okay. It's not a bad thing to have a constant flow of players. We'll be getting Rielly, Blacker and Percy in the next 1-3 years.

Why do so many hockey players get mono? Is it cause all the girls want to get with a guy going to the NHL?

You gotta dig Matt Finn's perspective on being a pro. Great attitude about the challenge ahead. Combined with his skill, he should be a good one.

I am a huge Finn backer, ever since he was drafted. Can he play in the NHL and play a key role? Yes. He has PP ability, he has the smarts and leadership skills.

The one thing he will have to work on is his skating, he will never be Rielly in terms of skating. He won't be Percy in terms of skating.

All he needs is to improve is his quickness and lateral movement. He's not going to be fast, ever, but footwork is something that Underhill can refine with him to give him the best chance of playing in the NHL.

Wouldn't rule it out Finn.
