So what are Dumba's largest flaws, and largest strengths? Why is he not being re-signed (I know about the cap issues, but wouldn't it be easier to shed Zucc?

What kind of player are we trading for?

I don't get to watch Minnesota very much now that I am in bed earlier, so it seems like his game has fallen off from a few years ago.
Strengths
- athleticism...can skate fast, is strong for his average(6') size, PMD skills.
- somewhat physical, and can fight a bit
- hard shot
- offensive instincts
- can play 1st pairing minutes
- good teammate

Weaknesses
- some injuries the past 3 years
- offense has dried up compared to earlier in his career
- shows poor judgement (at times) defensively.
- takes the odd bad penalty(not too bad, really)

The type of player I'd be looking for here is some kind of reclamation project, expiring contract (or perhaps not expiring if teams are looking to shed that contract next year and it's not too burdensome for us). A guy similar to Dumba who maybe isn't what he once was, but might need a change of scenery. No bona fide top of the lineup players. Not looking to swap for a Horvat type (though I obviously wouldn't say no to that). Kapanen is a good example if you disregard the fact that Pittsburgh doesn't need another RD. Or perhaps a case like DeBrusk last year (not this year anymore) where he wanted out and wasn't really performing up to hopes.

The list of prospects I'd add would be if someone had, again, maybe a DeBrusk-ish type who's young and under some team control for a bit.

@57special did a good job of highlighting his strengths and weaknesses.

Any interest in Henrique?

With another year at 5.8M, I would consider that burdensome. If Anaheim was willing to retain to make it work, it wouldn't be the worst thing we could try.

I'm not sure how the cap would work (especially for the Blues), but what about a player like Barbashev? He's an upcoming UFA but had a pretty good offensive year last year, but isn't really known as a goal scorer.

Im not representing Minny or St. Louis, just seeing if this is the type of player/deal you would be looking at.

Minnesota has some good and appealing prospects, but you didn’t list any of them as available...

instead, you listed some prospects with little value that won’t move any trade needles for a top six player.

Exactly correct. That's why other Dumba-like players are coming up.....like Henrique. I think the whole point is to a) move on from Dumba b) add a player that the Wild can play top-6 with all the injuries and mediocre going on currently and c) move on from Dumba.

Russo speculated the Wild could be looking at adding a forward, so instead of talking about trading top prospects for one, I wanted to explore trading a guy we're gonna move on from anyway for one. I'm not expecting world beaters here, just guys like Henrique or Kapanen who can fill the role for now.

Kasperi Kapanen is your guy! He can puck hound on Kaprizov’s line and you don’t have to feed him PP time. Plus he can PK! TML fans rave about him. We’d only need you to retain $2.8 M as we are the cap.
We do? Did we ever?

Nope

As far as Dumba goes - I think Alex Kerfoot is your man

Perhaps, although I think blues might like to resign Barbashev. But value is interesting if we don’t anticipate reupping Barbie.

Formenton: unsigned because he's under investigation in Canada sexual assault investigation

Dvo & Pul & Boeser: all three sucks right now

Granlund: not coming back. People have asked about him repeatedly with Russo, & Russo has made it clear Guerin wouldn't want him

Toffoli: maybe but he's slow. Calgary fans don't like him much like Boeser with Canucks fans when you go on their board.

I’m not sure who people are expecting, but I’d assume Boeser with retention is probably the best middle 6er that’s actually available.

Didn’t know about Formenton.

As for why he isn't being re-signed, Wild already have two older dmen signed long term (Spurgeon + Brodin) and a ton of D prospects in the pipeline. So I'm not sure if he would have a future in Minnesota even if he was playing well.
