"[L]iterally the last place on earth Duchene would go"? Really?

Montreal was the only other team he seriously considered before signing in Nashville and has deep family ties to the Montreal area. How on earth do you know that would literally the last place on earth he would go?

I doubt he leaves Dallas unless they lowball him too much, but I doubt he'd sign with 30 teams ahead of Montreal. Maybe not even half that.
He's not coming to Canada bro

Where did I say he was my guy
Well you had the need to get into a back and forth about whether or not MTL was the last place he'd sign. Like if it makes you feel better it's 25 out of 32 in terms of destination choices. My point is that he's not coming to Canada and thus not coming to MTL. Likely doesn't want to go anywhere there's a real winter. Does it really matter above and beyond that?

And it doesn't look like the Habs are considering him anyway.

Lol, its not really back and forth, you just made a bold claim based on your personal vibe and are getting defensive about it for no real reason.

Montreal is literally the last place on earth Duchene would go. He for sure doesn't want to be in Canada even though he's from here. He likes Dallas. He likes the south. He likes country. He's shown this over and over and over and over again.
I like how some people think they know exactly how people are thinking that they can make bold claims like this.

But little brother syndrome is strong in the capital

With the habs being an up and coming team, the opportunity of playing with Demidov, maybe the future UFA would consider the possibility?

Thoughts?
You make a good point - why play with scrubs like Johnston, Rantanen, Hintz, and Robertson when you can play with Ivan Demidov?!

He grew up a Habs fan

Could Matt Duchene be the perfect stop gap solution as a 2nd center in Mtl?

He grew up a Habs fan and I don't think he'll ask for too much terms

I don't think salary would be a problem for the Habs, but I don't think at Duchene age, Hughes would sign him for more than 3 years.

Duchene would be on Montreal radar for sure. Probably 7m for 4 years.

He grew up a Habs fan so I don't think it would be remotely close to his last choice. I don't think it would be top 5 but I can guess at least 10 teams that would be much further down the list.

I'd be surprised. He seems to have found a home in Dallas, so I'm sure he'd probably rather stay. But that will depend on whether there's a fit. Benn, IIRC, has already said to sign everyone else first and then get to him. So there should be enough there.

Yeah. Unless something absolutely implodes in Dallas in the next couple months, i don't see any reason whatsoever that Duchene would sign anywhere else. Much less a team on the rebuilding cusp of turning it around as a fringe playoff team...on the rise or not. And particularly not in that kind of insane fishbowl market that has a mob tracking and awaiting the arrival of a kid who hasn't played a single NHL game at the airport. Duchene seems much more at home...outside of that kind of pressure and public attention on him as a hockey player. Everything on and off the ice seems to be fitting perfectly in Dallas, he's still getting paid by Nashville to subsidize whatever he takes from Dallas, and he's not exactly hurting for money. Cheap, no tax state. Really no reason to conceivable think he'd leave at this point.

Maybe if he continues to just sign short, cheap deals to see out the next few years of Dallas and their "window" there...at the end of that, he'll look to sign some even cheaper short deals to go play for the Habs as a "veteran middle of roster depth filler" just to say he's done it. As he winds down the last couple years of his career. But that's about the most i'd expect to see him in a Habs jersey.

I was using hyperbole in that he’s not coming to Canada. Doesn’t matter if Montreal is his 15th or 25th choice. Hes staying in the south
