After a 82 point regular season, Matt Duchene was nowhere to be found in the playoffs. Especially at even strength where every inch is a battle, he seems to disappear entirely. And this isn't the first time he has gone cold in the playoffs. During last years conference run he only had 3 EVP (EN excluded) in 19 games! That makes three even strength points in his last 37 playoff games. That's too big of a sample size to be just variance.

This kind of a disappearing act is very dissapointing for an established veteran player like Duchene, who is still playing some of his strongest hockey in the regular season. Is he too much of a perimeter dangler to ever make an impact when the games matter?

I'm not saying he played well, but a 2.61% on ice shooting % will do that.

3 GF vs 14.8 xGF
3.64 ixGF

Puck luck is a bitch sometimes.

He had a 57.5% xG% and 3.54 xGF/60 at 5v5, both of which led all Dallas forwards. That suggests he probably played pretty well. Created a lot of chances.

I don't get that guy. He seems extremely inconsistent. He's been that way his whole career.

Didn't he have a season where he had like six goals and 13 points and then score 40+ goals the next year?

Having zero EVP in a lengthy playoff run is rough. I'm sure he had bad luck (obviously)... but ugh.

Yeah his 2nd and 3rd seasons in Nashville. 13 in one 86 the next, his last season was 56 and then Trotz bought him out because he didn't like something about him.

Now this is a seasoned veteran of playoffs past who needs to be excoriated for his disappearing act. Not 22 y.o. Wyatt Johnston.

All of Dallas besides Granlund and Rantanen at times looked back 5 on 5. Sounds like a coaching flaw if the only guys who look good are the guys who just got there.

Anyways, if Dallas doesn’t want him I’m sure Winnipeg will take him

From 82p in 82gp to 6p in 18gp. Pretty extreme but kinda sums up what happened to almost every forward in Dallas, except Rantanen.

Over this season and last its been 37 games.

3 goals and 12 points over basically half a season of hockey. Only 3 of them ES points.

That's a pretty wild drop off. 3 even strength points in 37 games.

Not sure you can chalk it up to puck luck at that point. There is something more going on there. I know I barely noticed him in either Oilers series.

He definitely wasnt creating many high danger chances.

A 4.37% on ice sh% can certainly happen over a 37 sample, it's really not very large. In fact, you'd expect that to happen to a few players in the league over a sample like that.

Duchene had some chances. I’m more disappointed in Robertson. I understand he was coming back from injury, but he already had the WPG series to shake off the rust. He was invisible and a turnover machine. His lack of foot speed will keep him from becoming a truly elite forward.
