Proposal: Matt Barzal comes Home- NYI and Van draft day trade

By lowball you mean stereotypical offer for every Islanders player because none of them have any value apparently. Even Brock Nelson we were told is only worth a 2nd and career minor leaguer.
No dude. I mean something like Willander and a 1st.

And hey! I said Nelson will get a 1st!

I really did! @Kevin27nyi

Choice of Mailloux, Hague or Roy (they are pretty much our best prospects not named Demidov or Reinbacher IMO, all three of them should make it to the NHL)

Barzal had his best season when he didnt have to be ''the guy'' every night, playing behind Tavares

I'm pretty sure he could resurrect his career playing behind Nick Suzuki

But in Vancouver would he be again the main offensive forward? If so I'm not sure he would be put in a much better situation than the one is in in Long Island
What would MTL be giving up? Nevermind I see @Bouboumaster already made an offer.

Unprotected 1sts or some form of protection?

Unprotected, I don't care

I firmly believe we are one or two players away to have a solid team, and Barzal could be the 1st/2nd line center we just happen to need more than anything else.
Also we are stacked to the brim with good prospects

We don't need those picks anymore

Replace the lower 2025 1st with the higher of the 2 2026 1sts you have. This is an extremely weak draft that tanks after pick 8 essentially. Ideally stocking up on a better year benefits the Isles. The only prospect of the 3 of interest you named is Hage honestly.

Calgarys pick is top 10 protected ours is un protected. Both would look like a 10-17 pick this year depending on final spots in standings

I also agree though I’d throw the kitchen sink to get barzel. Anyone not named Demi/rein and the current roster would be on the table

We don’t have a 2nd 1st next year?
Edit
What about 3 1sts straight plus roy

2 this year and ours next year #1 overall protected

Canucks 1st round pick (10th-15th overall)
Sawyer Mynio
3rd round pick

for

Matt Barzal

Islanders can choose to do a full rebuild by having 2 first round picks in the top 15, or use their 2x first round pick as ammo to do a quick retool via trade. Along with openning up the 9 mil of cap space from moving Barzal.

Islanders get Canuck's 1st round pick which will be around 10th-15th as well as next years 3rd plus Sawyer Mynio who is one of the top D prospects in Juniors. Made Team Canada this year at World Jrs as well.
Mynio just keeps getting better and better and projects to be top 4 Dman with a shot at Top pairing 2 way D.

Lou hangs up before you finish the word Mynio

Boub’s best offers are usually in other threads

When he’s the OP it’s usually a bit biased

Both picks look to be in the late teens (currently 16 and 17). So it's pretty late in tge season to need to include protection. That said I doubt Montreal would offer Hague if they're including 2 1sts and a 3rd. One of the other 2 guys is possible.

The issue I have is that this trade guts the Isles current veteran talent pool. That’s why ideally replacing the lower of the 1sts from a weaker draft for a 1st in a better draft next season would be ideal.

I read Puckpedia wrong. It’s 2 2nds this year.

So basically 2 mid round 1sts in a weak draft and a mediocre prospect (without Hage as an option) for Barzal? Yeah, it’s 1sts and all but not interested in that. Flip the teams and would that be of interest for Cole Caufield? It would be like the Isles offering 2 2025 1sts, Quinn Finley and a 3rd for him.

We have Patrick Roy. That’s enough Roy for one team. I mean if you have a future hall of famer available, then it’s possible.

Mynio is giving me Samuel Bolduc vibes based on how Canucks fans are hyping him up. We all know how Samuel Bolduc turned out.
There’s only the same 17 posters who are hyping him and overrating him. The rest know he’s not a blue chipper or anything

That’s 17 too many and personally I didn’t want him from the beginning. It’s like the Canucks fans trying to shove Jack Rathbone down our throats a couple years back. Moving Barzal to Vancouver is going to take Wallinder or Lekkermakki (sp?) as part of the deal realistically. The best offer I’ve seen so far was a 1st, Coronato and a prospect from a Calgary poster.

This probably gets it done, assuming Hague is Michael Hage and not some other prospect I don't know about. Would prefer for one of the firsts to be in 2026 if possible. Essentially 3 firsts for Barzal and two for Nelson, plus two of our own is the ammo you need for a re-tool. I'm extremely against trading Barzal, but I really like Hage and maybe one of those firsts helps us move up in the first round this year.

I've said it in about a million other threads but Barzal is only available for an overpay or in a package for a prolific goal scorer (talking Thompson, Pastrnak, Robertson levels of production). Many who are looking from the outside in will miss the context of his stats and injuries and try to leverage their own misunderstanding into lowering Barzal's value. That's not how it works.

Done for the pick

As for the prospects:
Hague is amazing

Roy is finding his groove right now but he'll play for sure in the NHL. IMO he's like Tyler Toffoli with a bit of a worst shot. Solid two way forwards, solid hockey IQ too. In Junior, he was dominant. He's 100% going in the NHL, either in 2025-2026 or at worst in 2026-2027 IMO

Mailloux is a physical beast with great offensive instincs. His defensive game need working but he has too much to offer to not play in the NHL someday

2025 1st (higher of the 2)
2026 1st
Hage
2025 3rd

Is probably what I’d consider as an Isles fan

It's Michael Hague year lol

As for the 2026 picks, how about:

Barzal

for

2025 Calgary 1st (they will pick before us)
2026 Montréal 1st Unrestricted
2025 Montréal 4th
Michael Hague

Montréal would then roll next year:
Slafkovsky - Suzuki - Caufield
Demidov - Barzal - Laine

Which is f***ing sexy IMO
