Friedman was on the Kyper and Bourne show yesterday and they talked briefly about the Isles. Pretty much said Darche won them over (after Holland passed) but that Lou is still around and is advising Malkin. While Darche reports directly to Malkin, Malkin still listens to Lou - so Lou is not out of the picture. They also said keeping Roy was part of the deal, he still has 2-3 years left on his deal worth between 7-10 million.
Interestingly, they also said that giving long term deals to the AGMs (Chris L and Pellegrini) is par for the course in the NHL, Blake did the same before his ouster in LA as have many others before them. GMs who know they are about to be canned want to look after their guys that really don't make that much money compared to the GM, so they give them these deals.
