New York Islanders: Mathieu Darche is named GM of the New York Islanders

According to Friedman, Stacy Roest the GM of the Syracuse Crunch (TBL AHL team) has left the team. Not sure why he'd leave unless it's to be AGM somewhere as there are no GM jobs available. And you'd have to think the frontrunner would be coming here, having worked with Darche for 10 years.

Maybe he takes Chris L's Job?

That's certainly the first impression one can get here.

Duclair is his own agent. He probably knows that he's not guaranteed a spot on an NHL team after last season. If that's the case, why would he agree to terminate his own contract and give up 10 Million Dollars?

And from the Isles perspective, isn't' it worth seeing what he can do if he's healthy in what is likely to be a largely explorative season? At the very least it would make a buyout more palatable next year. Worst situation for this upcoming year would be that they have to treat him like they treated Engvall last season.

As far as boulders, I think 3.5x 3 is probably somewhere behind Mayfield, Engvall and Pulock at the least.

Short response:
I don't see Roy and Duclair working together again.

What one does now is all up to Darche.

Chyzowski and Chynoweth were supposed to be the post dynasty saviours. And don’t forget Brad Isbister - I remember thinking he was going to be a star power forward. Dark days
Don’t ever disrespect Oleg Kvasha like that. Hardest working practice player in Islanders history. It’s just a shame it didn’t translate directly to a game setting.

Good ole Matty Blue Line! Here's my ranking of Islanders that were going to lead us to the promised land that never quite panned out......

5. Josh "The Alarm Clock" Ho-Sang
4. Otto "Does Everything, Accomplishes Nothing" Koivula
3. Griffin "Of Slow Foot" Reinhart
2. Kiefer "Corners" Bellows
1. Michael "Donkey Legs" Dal Colle

Let me know if you think I left someone out......
Jesse Joensuu? Kirill Kabanov? Ville Pokka? Corey Trivino (yes I know but I had to)?

Fingers crossed but maybe he's moving up to Tampa to be an AGM

Oh no Friedman was saying he left the organization entirely. He was already AGM which is what makes it weird. No chance he makes more money here - maybe he wanted something different and Brisebois didn't give it to him.
Yea I just read he's currently(not now I guess) director of player development for the lightning along with being AGM for the lightning and GM for the crunch.

Im all for it. Sounds like Roest was a big part of Tampa the last decade.

I’m just excited to see what Darche brings to the table, I don’t expect immediate results, it may take him up to 3 years to put his stamp on the team and turn them around. I’m interested in seeing if he’ll be respected by other teams and free agents. Lou always got to the edge of signing BIG free agents, the Isles always seemed to come in 2nd. Be interesting to see if he can improve that.

Welcome to Tampa North. With Vinnik selling a majority stake of team in 2024 with a 3 year transfer, there’s probably going to be some bodies moving out of the Tampa organization- Darche will poach them.

That's the best explanation for why Roest would leave. Owner of the Crunch lives in East Meadow, maybe he's been up here a little bit already and likes the vibe. Either way, if this means Chris L is going it's a slam dunk.

Funny, for a while there Tampa was NY Rangers south.

If the Isles are going to become Tampa North after they had a mini-dynasty, sign me the f*** up

I respect this a lot actually. Probably called and spoke to most of the players and introduced himself.

I watched an interview with Darche 3 years ago and was asked what's it like working alongside Brisebois and he mentioned the thing that impressed him about Brisebois was communication. During covid he would call up every single player and staff to keep them in the loop of what's going on. Seems like Darche wants to do the same with personally keeping in contact with everyone. Hopefully that means fans too hehe. Keep us in the loop Mathieu :D

I feel a lot of people respect Lou but don't want to deal with him.

My current take:
- Don't see Roy and Duclair working together again. He brought him in. Then he bitchslapped him when he wasn't good enough.
- Any such reset attempt would immediately be endangered as soon as Duclair would get on another cold streak or play inconsistently, two things that have accompanied him at every single step of his career.
- Would never have suspected that Lamoriello of all people would have simply let an active top 9 asset "take time off for personal reasons", so it felt like there's more behind this.
- Duclair disappeared and we didn't hear a thing from him - or after that. Zilch. Nada. Niente. Is it possible that Duclair is actually undergoing mental health treatment of some sort? The public call-out Roy made may have simply been the straw that broke the camel's back.

One way or another, Duclair presents a 3.5 MM-over-3-more-seasons boulder that Darche has to take into consideration.

Among many other tasks.

Right, so since Duclair cannot be traded if Roy stays then are you just going to sit Duclair for 3 years? Not likely. Worse rights than this have been mended. They probably have no choice.

Legit anyone take Chris' job.

Anyone.
