New York Islanders: Mathieu Darche is named GM of the New York Islanders

Let’s see what ya got, kid.

Well said. This is the right angle to take.

Darche may fail...Or he may succeed. We don't know, but he deserves a chance.

And Malkin/Collins deserve big credit for not only entrusting a franchise to and up and coming rookie executive, but...Not going the safe/uninspired route of recycling an experienced GM who already failed at their previous job.

If Lou was still here you could've predicted the offseason (and results next season). And if Jarmo or Bergevin came here you may not have been able to predict the offseason, but you would be able to predict the results in the long-term.

With Darche we have a wild card, but I'm going to trust the best owners this franchise has ever had that we just got a GM better than Lou. And if he's better than Lou (and hopefully much better), then there's a reason to be hopeful.

If you want to know part of the reason why I wanted Darche, it's because, in addition to simply looking at Bergevin's previous work, I could anticipate of the media/fans would receive a Darche hiring vs a Bergevin hiring. Take a look here:

Islanders Hire Darche as GM

I like it. I think this is a good move. I'd rather a good Assistant from a great organization than a re-tred.
Same here. Time will tell how it plays out, but I am all for giving a hungry, well thought of assistant from a championship organization a chance rather than going old school again.

Congrats Darche. It’s a good start but I do want to see more old regime Islanders out. No more Garth scouts, Lou assistants, etc

I hope to hear more changes announced. I’m not super concerned about no POHO because Collins has experience with NHL compared to Malkin/Ledecky

He was the candidate I wanted most out of all the candidates, so I’m very happy. Could turn out great, could turn out to be bad, but I like the idea about a hungry young assistant GM getting a shot here to finally be a GM. Very happy.

Anything that happens with Shanahan would just be the cherry on top. Hopefully Darche would have some autonomy.

I don’t like that part.

I want an upgraded staff. I don’t know if Darche has the league contacts for that.
He’s a modern type of guy he’s going to upgrade and change the way we draft and the scouting departments. I would like him to work with a president to delegate some of the responsibility but as of now I’m not upset with him running the show putting the pieces in place that he likes

I strongly preferred Shanahan not being brought on board for team president, but...With no team president coming on board now you have to wonder (be scared) that Lou might still have a notable presence/role and still be lurking over the front office. That shouldn't, and can't, be the case if you want Darche to have the freedom to run the team he wants. Thus, here is the next move I want to see...

Chris Lamoriello is fired.

If that happens then you'll know who's in control.

Nervous until this is confirmed. I want no part of Bergevin, Shanahan, or the revolving door of retreads. I feel like they are taking a good swing here for a new guy who is ready for his shot and understands the hockey world of 2025. If he fails...he fails. But this org needs an enema and reset in terms of scouting and player development, and someone steering the ship who recognizes talent and isn't mystified by the cap.
