Maybe there's a small chance he's not happy with his ice time at MSU? I think Duncan Keith did something similar where he went from college to the WHL.

Seems like a odd fit. why would a guy that grew up in Big ten country goto Portland Oregen for a year? he was football/hockey player from MINN. he does not seem like a guy that is afraid of a challenge and understands were he is at. he seems like a guy who grew up wanting to play in the big ten. so he has a slower first year and stays for 2. 3/4th line first year and 2nd line second year. MSU has such better facilities then WHL portland also way better teammates to push and better competition and he starts working toward a degree. I hope im right
