They have to move Marchment or Dumba before they are put in the rough position of some of their RFA’s getting offer sheet’d. The blood is in the water.

Marchment should at least have positive value to get out of. Dumba will probably take a sweetener.
The sweetner for taking Dumba could just be Marchment
Maybe Anaheim via their playoff edict?
Dumba + Marchment for Helleson

Dallas should have no issue moving him for value. Cap space is plentiful and who isn't in the market for size? Even bottom feeders can acquire him with the expectation that he'll bring back a quality return at the deadline as a rental.

How would Dallas fans feel about Dumba, Lybushkin and Marchment to Pittsburgh for Timmins? Pittsburgh is basically solving Dallas’ cap problems while also giving them a decent bottom pair RD, but they're getting a valuable trade chip in Marchment that they can either flip immediately or hold onto until the deadline.

The Penguins defense would be hilariously bad, but the 1st+ I bet Marchment could bring back would make it worth it.

Montreal would give 2 x 3rd (#67 + 68) for him.

Makes only 4 millions for 1 year.

Worst case you trade him at the deadline for basically the same return.

Dallas saves the money now and gets picks.

The folks saying he has net zero value because other teams know that Dallas has to move him…that’s really a moot point because Marchment would be desirable by at least a handful of clubs. It is not simply “Marchment has to move and he has only one team to go to therefore Dallas cannot leverage anything for him in a trade”.

There’s a market for Marchment. That’s what will drive positive value. Maybe not a 1st but definitely a couple of solid picks or assets. Just like any rental with his traits would net.

If I’m Dallas I’m also not attaching an anchor to him like Dumba. Negotiate value for Marchment independently and then deal with the cost of moving Dumba, a true negative value guy.

I always think the leverage point is totally overblown unless a player refuses to play unless it's for one specific team.

I think so. Just tell Howard to look at our LW depth(Robertson and then basically no one), he might get 2nd line minutes pretty immediately
The only thing is I don't think Tampa even said "you're not going to play" or "you're going to the AHL," I think he really just cares about picking whatever team he wants. So maybe Dallas hesitates a little unless they're feeling lucky or Howard indicates he'd play there.

Maybe. But I think they’d be looking at a 2nd or so for Marchment, so I think it would be the risk for Howard over a 2nd, which has a decent chance of never turning into anything worthwhile

Marchment will absolutely have value. Even though Dallas is in a crunch there will be plenty of teams willing to give value for a decent contract for a player with size.
