Value of: Mason Marchment

With the Matt Duchene signing, Dallas is down to ~$450k in cap room. They basically have to move somebody, and there has been speculation that it could be Mason Marchment.

Marchment is 30, has one year left on his $4.5M AAV deal, plays both center and left wing, shoots L, and has a ten team no trade list.

Teams that could be a possible fit (off the top of my head): Devils, Leafs, Lightning, Capitals, Kings, Hurricanes, Senators, Canadiens

Assuming that this would be something of a cap dump that might entail getting cheaper players or picks/prospects back, what are some offers that Dallas might entertain?

Marchment should at least have positive value to get out of. Dumba will probably take a sweetener.

He’s definitely not a center but I suspect there will be substantial interest. With such a weak UFA crop and teams maybe gun-shy on big term bidding wars for depth players - guys like Marchment and Ross Colton, who aren’t old, bring either size or “jam” and some middle six strength and are on reasonable short-term or expiring contracts but probably have to be moved due to cap constraints on their current teams will definitely have a bullish market, IMO.

Would Dallas be interested in something around McMann + for Marchment? Obv Marchment is the better player, but McMann is cheap, big, can score and could fill his spot in the lineup.

Yeah it’s weird NHL.com and a lot of NHL adjacent sites will list every forward who ever took a draw even from back in juniors as a “C”. They have like 80% of forwards listed as center or playing center as a secondary position.
