Ok, someone mentioned that Amart deserves his own thread, so here it is. I'm also including a poll, because, that's just how I like to roll baby!!!

And just so we're all clear, I'm saying the smart move is to trade Amart sometime before the trade deadline (assuming we won't be able to re-sign). This way, we get to see how developed/undeveloped McNabb is, while not losing too much trade value in Amart.

Poll cometh...

Keep him for this year. Can never have too much depth on D for the playoffs. Lose him UFA when the Kings can't match a 3M+ offer.

Are you asking if Martinez should be kept beyond this season? I'm for keeping AMart this season, but confused about your poll. AMart is on a stupendously great deal right now. I can't see why we trade him.

It's up after this season

I have a hard time trading a guy who scored two of the most important goals in franchise history. That being said, it is hard to see where he fits in after this season. I guess I wouldn't actively be looking to move him but if good offer were to be made, I think the Kings have to listen. I think the best bet is to keep him through the season and let him walk as a free agent next summer. A lot can happen over the course of a year.

Well said Buddy.

Amart brings experience, he's accountable and has become a top secondary scorer from the blue line which most teams covet. Oh and he's young! That said, he'll want north of $3.3M - $4M per year (long term) which would seem redundant with Slava on the books for 5 more yrs. The salary slotting is gonna get dicey specially if Slava doesn't bounce back next year. The balance of Regher's money opens up a place for Amart. So we could have McNabb filling Regher's spot with Forbort graduating to the NHL by 2016-17. Next season will be very similar to this year, we lose a D and keep the younger of the two to a hometown discount and hope to graduate another from Manchester on the cheap. $.02

Not to mention Stoll, Williams both UFA's at the end of the season along with Amart. And Pearson, Toffoli, Jones, Muzzin etc all RFA's and due a raise!!! There will be players moved, no doubt about that. There's no way Deano can fit everyone in even with RR's expiring contract. That is unless the cap goes up to 75M+

Hopefully this helps pains the picture

  • Kopitar, Anze » $6,800,000
    Brown, Dustin » $5,875,000
    Richards, Mike » $5,750,000

    Clifford, Kyle » RFA
    Pearson, Tanner » RFA
    Toffoli, Tyler » RFA

    Doughty, Drew » $7,000,000

    Voynov, Slava » $4,166,667

    Regehr, Robyn » UFA

    Greene, Matt » $2,500,000

    Martinez, Alec » UFA

    Muzzin, Jake » RFA

    Schultz, Jeff » $850,000

    Salary Cap $69,000,000
    Salary Payroll $57,225,000
    Cap Payroll $50,414,394
    Bonuses $0
    Cap Space $18,585,606

18,585,606 minus what King signs for + any increase in the cap and you have to sign or let walk

Williams
Stoll
Clifford
Pearson
Toffoli
Nolan
Cracknell- maybe he has a big year?

Regehr
A-Mart
Muzzin

Jones

It's tough. His value is probably at an all-time high, so getting something of value for him would be great. At the same time, he's done pretty well for himself here. I'd love to keep him on the team.

For fun let's say the cap goes to 73 mil. That means and you get Stoll and Williams to take pay cuts and that King signed for 1 mil. That means 22,585,606 in space

-King (1 Mil)
21,585,606
-Williams (2.5 mil)
20,085.606
-Stoll (2.5 mil)
17,585,606
-Clifford (1.5 mil)
16,085.606
-Toffoli (3 mil)
13,085,606
-Pearson (2.5 mil)
10,585,606
- Martinez (4 Mil)
6,585,606
-Muzzin (5 mil)
1,585,606

Regher is gone. We'd better hope that McNabb signed cheap. Maybe 1.25 mil?
That leaves 335,606 in cap space.

It's not looking great and I was pretty conservative with contracts also hoping that Top Titty and Pearon take bridge contracts

How much would you pay Martinez? Muzzin?

Since they are the 2nd and 3rd best defensemen on the team, I would let King walk
(who is EASILY replaced) and sign both Muzzin and Martinez. They are both better than Voynov.

King (who may get over 2 mil is replaceable) Muzzin and Martinez not easily replaced.
Let Andreoff take Kings place.

Some say Martinez has good trade value, but I do not think you get a superior return.
Trade replaceable parts like KIng, Lewis, Nolan.

Numbers???

Numbers???

I don't know. If you have forwards like: Kopitar, Carter, Gaborik, Brown,
Richards, Toffoli, Pearson, etc locked up for a few years...and you risk
losing your #2 and #3/4 defensemen, it will be the downfall of the Kings.

Greene and Regehr are going downhill and Mtchell is gone. Doughty is Doughty,
and Voynov is not that great. Slump BS. He cannot win a 1 on 1 physical
battle and he makes more gaffes per game, than Muzzin and Martinez
combined. Voynov has even lost much of the speed he had, when he came up.
Haglin was 10 feet behind him and beat him by 10 feet like nothing. He does not skate hard either.
Is he smart? Yes. His man on man coverage is ok, but if it involves
a physical battle, he loses. Is he bad? No. He is just not as good as Martinez
or Muzzin. I would trade him and hos 4.125 before I would trade Muzzin or Martinez.

You cannot replace or trade Muzzin and Martinez at their salaries.

I would have considered each of them priority #2 and #3, after getting Gaborik
signed. Paying Greene 2.5 doesn't hurt too bad. I would begin trading
guys like King, Lewis and Nolan if that helped make room for Martinez and
Muzzin.

If the cap space is going to be needed, then I say trade voynov. The guy is suppose to be the 2nd pairing offensive dman but the only consistent thing he did last year was break sticks.

If Voynov has not turned it around by the all star break, much like Richards I trade them both and keep martinez with voynovs money.

Keep him for now. If a great deal comes along, perhaps DL takes it but I see no reason to trade Martinez. There's other players that can be removed or traded to keep us within the cap before getting to Martinez.
