Those missed development years don't come back just because he didn't play. I'm sure he's a fine 3C but the Avs need a surefire 2C not another crapshoot

Lehkonen's career high is 51 points. Batherson scored 68 pts this year good for 2nd on our team while not even playing with Stutzle who had the most points. Ottawa is a relatively low scoring team with distributed offence. Batherson has wayyy more value. Imagine Batherson on Mackinnon's wing? 90 point season would not surprise me.

You are viewing this from strictly a points perspective and not taking into consideration the two-way play (Lehky is a good/greqt pker), playoff experience (a cup and a cup final) in addition to being a clutch goal scorer (OT GWG to go to the finals and cup winning goal). He’s the type of player that allows for a 60/70 point scorer become a point per game player. His 51 point season was also in 64 games (65 point pace). So offensively closer than you suggest and defensively, Lehkonen has the advantage.

I’m not saying Lehkonen is as valuable, but it is close at the very least with Colorado likely needing a slight add.

I feel like an extended Necas for Cozens and Batherson would be something to build around, but thats assuming Cozens shows hes a rock solid 2C.

I would rather wait if our damn coach can finally understand to split up Mack and Necas before trading him. See it this way we lost Rantanen for Necas and right now trading him for picks or something that doesn't fix a need right away just feels like counter productive when this team is a win now.

If we trade Necas it's better be to fix that freaking #2C enough with the bandaid solutions with giving all of our assets.

Carolina spent a long time looking for a 2C they could acquire with Necas as the centerpiece.

I don't even think it's that necessary to trade Necas (would be harder without extension). I would rather see what he can do away from Mackinnon because both play way too similarly meaning that they love to entry and hold onto the puck. I would've liked to see him with Nelson during the playoffs hoping it would ignite both of them offensively but our coach is stubborn.

I know it's far fetched to go this way but I would also try Landeskog as our #2C. Dude is responsible defensively and can take faceoffs. Only question is how well he can hold these minutes after that career threatening injury. In the playoffs I thought he was way way better than we expected.
