How much would you pay Necas?

I did not realize that the contentious nature of Necas' negotiations with Carolina was about a bridge contract. So that begs the question:

Is it smarter to bridge him at $9 to $10 on a 2 year deal? Or is it smarter to try to tie him up for 8 x $11.5? By 27-28 ( next year plus a 2 year bridge) he could be looking for $14 and somebody might go $15. Will the ' Nate Cap' still exist with the cap at $100M+? Would Nate go to Joe and insist Necas breaks the Nate Ceiling? If - and it is a big IF - he continues this level of play through the playoffs, I have no issues offering 8 x $11.5 as it would turn out to be a value contract.

Then again he could suck.

I assumed that was somewhere in Europe, but the translation says former teammates, so he's spending the break near Carolina? Or perhaps a couple buddies all met somewhere else.

edit... Never mind, the video says Carribean.

IIRC he was asking 8M so if that was for a bridge deal then you offer him 8x9.5M or 10M and it would probably do the trick.

I think would open negotiations by offering him 9.375M x 8years for a cool 75M. I would not expect him to accept, but don't think it's an insult to open negotiations here. It's an increase on the 9.25M per year we were paying Rants this season.

IMO if he signs before the playoffs it'll be for 10M or slightly under, if he waits until after it'll probably be more. For some dumb reason I completely forgot he had another year on his deal.

He can't sign before July 1st

I don't remember where exactly, but in the Biz interview he said they had plans to go down there during the 4Nations.

He probably just kept them.

I hope our whole team is doing the same thing.

He filed for arbitration at his last contract signing in Carolina. Funnily, so did Drury at the same time !
That's okay. We've had tons of prospects file for arbitration over the years. Quite a few of them got resolved before the hearing actually took place, much fewer have actually gone into arbitration.

Actually going into arbitration is a rough for everyone involved. The player makes their case but then has to sit and listen to his GM tell him why he isn't worth that number. It's tough on a GM because he's got to sit there, look a kid in his eyes and tell him he's not good enough while also realizing this kid could be a key part of your future success. Razer thin line being balanced between explaining your case and not creating a rift that results in a trade becoming necessary or the player leaving via UFA.
