Make no mistake. Marner holds all the cards here. If the Leafs piss him off, he could play out the season and walk for nothing. ASAMOF, there is not one snippet, even the tiniest news anywhere that Marner has agreed to waive his NMC. Give him a million raise and call it a day, hopefully with no NMC included.

Marner decides if he will be traded. No one else. And if you talk about him being greedy, half the team is like that. This bs started with Tavares. Then Matthews only cares about himself. Nylander is also a greedy puke.

The difference is the cap is going up significantly this year and every year for the foreseeable future. Need to move on from soft players like Rielly and Lilly. That free's up another 12 million.
oh boy...please no.

2.50 GAA, pretty good considering how Samsonov was for us (3.01). Hey, if you think the Leafs are on the cusp, good on ya, I don't.
Its a curious take that poster has ...picking apart the cup finalist Oilers...funny that.

Who knows how the year plays out. A player we could want who's not available now could be available come February.
Thats the problem...if we run it back once again, we got a pretty good idea how the season plays out.

Which bring me full circle… it’s the playoffs, a tourney anything can happen. To me they don’t matter a heck of a lot. Get lucky get hot, all of a sudden we are the best> who knew? lol!
Now I just feel bad for you.

You don't think he wants to stay in Toronto? Potentially have his jersey in the rafters and possibly even a statue? Not to mention continue to get lucrative endorsement deals, his businesses (own a restaurant), grow his foundation (employ his family), big tax write off and potentially have another career in management or media afterwards? He may not like the criticism, but you could tell even before he indicated "he's a god in Toronto"... that he loves the attention.

He can play out the year and leave, but he can only sign a 7 year contract vs an 8 with Toronto. At 35 hes unlikely to get meet the same wage he does on an 8 year, especially with how slow and weak he is already. His stock is depreciating by the season, not sure it is wise of him to sign a short term deal, especially if he's going to a team where he won't have a player of Matthews caliber on his line. Or the talent the Leafs have on the pp.
Wow, seems like you and Marner have some big plans.

It's too risky. The team is moving in another direction (balance). Mitch is being moved. For everyone's benefit.
Have to wait and see if he waives. No one can predict the future.

Feels like he enjoys adulation, not attention. Sadly he's assumed one leads to the other at times.

Really discouraging comment from EF. Why would the leafs be telling EF they already fear a bad return that they haven't negotiated yet?
Because Elliot needs to get paid.... it's very likely Quartexx Management reached out to Elliot to plant a seed. It amazes me that anyone trusts the MSM anymore after all we've been thru since 2020.

But sheep gonna sheep.

I imagine his goal is the same every year, try to win with his home town team.

I imagine they will try and get something done during the summer. Once the season starts he'll let the agent deal with it, like most players do.
His father has nothing to do with it.

He thinks and correctly so, he is worth 1 to 2 million more per season if he comes at no asset cost.
Wow, Quartexx Management really has all its "influencers" active today. Just wait, the closer it gets to July 1st and shortly thereafter the worse it's gonna get.

l'd be OK if Marner walks, especially if he's looking for Matthews any money.
Fixed.

What are you talking about? There is no "requirement" for Marner to work with Toronto. Wanting to play in Toronto was before the fans turned on him.

He has a NMC. He can play out the year and leave. Plain and simple. You might as well wrap your noggin around that because it could happen.

His card is the most important card of all. He can just leave after the year.

If you can’t trust Friedman, who can you trust ?

American sources with no interest in ever working in Canada. How they let media companies own sports franchises is strange. There is even sports betting advertised on the stations owned by the teams owners for the purpose of betting on the game being played.

Figure that one out. What a world

I think it is a smokescreen. Leafs using EF to spread rumors that they don't mind holding on to MM bc he is a great player and if you want to trade for him, you better come in full value.
So pretty much the exact opposite of what Dubas did with Kadri and everyone low balled him. I like this tactic if its true.

That’s better than re-signing.

Lebrun in the Athletic reports that, as of now, Marner intends on honouring his last year of the contract AND that he doesn't want to talk extension this offseason ... Boy, did we really screw ourselves over not trading him when we could. Total oversight by Shanahan. Marner will walk for nothing and get paid July 1 , 2025
