IMO super close matchup so im curious who you think will finish with the most pts at the end of this season
Mitch will have the same linemates while Panarin should be playing with an upgraded centre (Trocheck is a bit better then Strome) + a improved winger
Same pp tho

Panarin.

He is playing with the most talent he ever has. I think Lafreniere breaks out this season and Panarin puts up 110 points [which I think will be good enough to finish top-3 in the NHL].

Panarin scored at 113 point pace with offensively inept Fast and somewhat decent Ryan Strome.

No. He could do it for sure...its just that he hasn't yet.

Numbers state different.

Panarin has outscored Marner in 3 of the 6 years Marner has been in the league, was 1 point behind last year, has the better points per game in 4 out of the 6 years, as well as the two highest points per game seasons between them. And since Mariner’s breakout in 18-19, he’s at 1.21 PPG, while Panarin is at 1.27 PPG in the same time frame. They’re obviously in the same tier of player, but there’s certainly an argument for Panarin.

Since I get told told ad infinitum, I'll tell you: Pace means nothing.
Awesome pace, but he didn't actually do it, perhaps he should play more.

If pace means nothing then I suppose Matthews has only ever been a 50 goal scorer once in his career..

Obviously in the most literal sense it's true, but saying Matthews wasn't a 50 goal calibre player from 2019 to 2021 is foolish. Especially since he has maintained a 50+ goal pace over the past few years.

The same applies to Panarin. He's consistently been around 1.28 - 1.38 PPG for the past 3 years.

If a player has consistently paced for x amount of points or goals for multiple years, it's a pretty good indicator of their ability.

It's why Evgeni Malkin is almost unanimously considered the 3rd best forward from 2005 - 2015 despite only finishing top 10 in points 4 times in his career.

Numbers without context aren't all that valuable.

Marner's linemates are significantly better than Panarin's. If you put Panarin with 60 goal scorer Matthews, he produces more than Marner does in the same position.
