Yeah if they can limit term especially I’ll be happy. I wouldn’t care about money too much depending on the exact term. Like if Ehlers came in at 3x10 I’d do it.

Ehler’s injury history would concern me to the point I wouldn’t offer more than 3 x $8, I’m not paying a guy who has never eclipsed more than a PpG in a season anymore than that.

I love Bennett but as others have mentioned his style of play doesn’t lend itself to a long career without breaking down. I think he will miss significant time in the upcoming years which will make it difficult to reap the benefits of the contract he will demand… unless you are a serious cup contender and you just manage his schedule to ensure he is ready to go come playoff time.

Marner is an elite level talent who will be very expensive, my biggest concern is making the same mistake the Leafs did when they brought in Tavares. You sign Marner to a huge ticket and then the Hawks young players are standing there with their hands out when they are ready to negotiate new deals expecting to receive their own big payday. Is he the right guy to give the money to? The guy the rest your team is going to be willing to make less than? If not, you end up with 3 or 4 guys taking up half of your cap when they may not be worth it,

I am starting to think this may not be the year to spend big, the right fit just may not be available in FA.

I could see it. I wonder if Granlund will prefer a one year deal so he can be moved to a contender at the deadline without having to take a big pay cut.
