It's funny reading people say things like "keep him on a short term deal" or "no more than $12m/yr" or "no NMC/NTC."

Guys, he's a UFA in 6 weeks who deeply resents the fan base, media, and possibly management. We have zero leverage and he wants to leave. He's a goner and at this point even $14mx8yrs wouldn't do it.

I don't blame him one bit and would do the same thing if I were in his position. Take your wife and baby and go start a new life somewhere else without all the baggage and pressure.
How the f*** can he resent the management.. (I know you said possibly) but for sure not them..he got everything he could as for. Sure he can resent the media and "fans" that treated him "poorly"
This is also coming from someone that defended him in th Marner thread. I at the point where I don't have an idea or opinion on what to do with him, and will see what happens after July 1st.
If he leaves, he becomes the enemy cuz he ain't a leaf anymore and hope he never wins with his new team lol

No more core four. It has not worked in 9 years and it won't next year. Rosehill has him figured out, when things get physical and tough, he is not there. Look at him during the handshake line, he was the smallest one out there... scrawny.

Let someone else play him around 14 million eat up a large sum of the salary cap to put up great regular season numbers and then disappear in the post season.

You had me until you talked about pressure, although no I don't think he WANTS to leave at all I just think he knows It's over.

But please spare me the pressure bullshit, because that's what it it is It's f***ing bullshit.

You want to talk about pressure talk to any Laker, Celtic Yankee, Red Sox, Cowboy, Dodger, Packer.

Talk to any Soccer player who is afraid to f*** up because they know if they do their might be a riot and they might die.

Toronto doesn't have pressure, The Leafs don't know what pressure is.

Depends on what he signs for. If he signs for less than Nylander I will happily sign him and trade the other core members. But the reality is he won't do that, and we'll be stuck with a worse team that's still improperly built.

Amen brother.

As always, it depends on the cost. A one deal for 7 million, keep. A 9 million deal for any number of years without trade protection, keep. At any number that he's likely to agree to, don't walk, run!

That's really my line of thinking as well. If he'd sign cheap, sure... which is about as likely as the sun not coming up tomorrow. He's going looking for $12-14 mil somewhere, and I don't want that to be here. Surely there are teams more desperate to make the playoffs, than worried about how they perform once they get there.

I'd offer him $7 mil.... and wish him the best. We need depth, and players whom we think might be able to score and contribute in the playoffs. We can't afford those players with him making top dollars. He's an amazing regular season player, good offensively, good on the PK... if only that had ever translated to play in the playoffs.

It will be interesting to see how his production changes, if at all, once he's away from Matthews, Tavares and Nylander. It wouldn't shock me to see him have a really off year next year, wherever he lands.

I don't think you're asking yourself the right question...

Nylander alone will NEVER overcome any Matthews injury... So the right question to ask yourself is wich player the rest of the team will follow the most

1- The unidimentionnal high skilled offensive player who show up once every 2 game and who's constantly taking shift off especially in the defensive side
or
2- The consistant guy with less skill but playing the right way, working harder and making a lot of different thing to help his teammate

If the team behind follow any of those 2 player and play the same way of both playing, it would be a conplete disaster get a complete team playing the nylander way
Because Mitch pretends he’s a defenceman half the time, he’s playing the right way?

mitch tricks people a lot with his defensive acumen lol. how about you take the puck to the net? how about you enter the o zone and shoot the puck? can you do that? nah

Agreed. If you're paid $10M+ per year as a forward you have to consistently produce no matter how good you are without the puck.

Thrown into a volcano works too. Get this selfish money grubbing loser off the team. Marner arrived claiming to be a Leafs superfan who would do anything for the team. He proved he only cares about dollars, and chokes in the playoffs. Goodbye, and don't come back.

I've already thrown my Marner jersey in the garbage. No, that's not a lie or an exaggeration. It's currently stuffed in the bag with the other trash, and I'm honest to goodness looking forward to putting it to the curb on Wednesday.

Well that sucks. Can't you just get the name changed or something - flip Marner for Knies? Or even just remove the name?

Do not throw your Marner jersey out. Burn it and post the video. LOL.

Marner does not even look dangerous. Look at players like MacKinnon, McDavid, Draisaitl, Kaprizov who scare the pants off dmen like Morgan Rielly. Hell even Eichel, and Kyle Connor look more dangerous carrying the puck. The puck is a hot potato in late April and May. Two goals in 13 playoff games. One on a breakaway and one from the half wall. The guy hates traffic on the ice as much as I hate traffic on the 401.

Marner, like Mathews, like Mo, like Styles, like JT are regular season fodder, playoffs not so much. Does anyone rally want to go thru this for another season?

Sign and separate from Matthews.

I just don’t see how we improve by letting him walk, with our limited futures and crummy UFA market. But he may make the decision for us. Easy to see him leaving.

Have fun Mitchy in Utah with your 14-15M per .. no one will watch you or give 2 sh*ts about Utah pretty much as soon as season starts .. and when Utah is out of playoffs again or gone in round 1 it will be back to da cottage and having more fun .. well done .. good job on making a killing from hockey .. not many guys do as you know
