How is keep the right call for a guy that turns into a borderline 2nd liner for 14 million?

He is awful vibes, yelling at his team, calling them passengers meanwhile Twig Marner has done absolutely nothing at all in his failed career.

He doesn't hit, he doesn't fight, he doesn't lead, he doesn't score, he was a big part of the 0/30 pp in elimination games, he's arrogant, he's greedy.

Literal cancer in every sense.

He was stage 4 cancer in game 7

Boston lost Thornton for nothing, who literally went on to win a Hart/Art Ross that year, won a cup/went to the finals

I sometimes wish we went back to a 2015 style team of just 3rd liners up and down the lineup so some of the people's complaints on here actually made sense.

Here's the thing, though, he's (Matthews) the most significant part of that core...

I'm not really sure what to do with him because I've seen and heard some things in the last few days that make me wonder if it's worth it to continue with him.

If you want an outside perspective, I would keep him. He's not the problem, just not well surrounded. He showed what he's capable of at the 4 Nations. Leafs need to get a real goalie and a couple of heavy forwards.

I would keep Marner around 12 and trade Nylander for 2 reason

1-If Matthews get injured again in regular season, intrust marner more than Nylander to carry the boat. Honestly if marner walk and matthews is injured again... Honestly if matthews is injured again, not sure leafs will stillnin playoff

2- I think it will be easier to build a playoff identity with Marner than Nylander.



If the player on bench just saw this from one of their 2 primary offensive leader... How do you think rest of the group will react? Do you really think they will respond positively? How do you want to create team work ethic and winning battle with a leader completly disengaged?!?!?!

You bring a bennett to play with nylander and nylander still playing that way, do you really think Bennett will change anything? He would not be able to bring work ethic of 2 player alone... he will just pursuit the puck all game long...

I have no doubt than a bennett would have a much higher alongside a Marner

Nylander is an amaizing player but for me he's look like Erik Karlsson. Incredible offensive player who doesn't fit in any team system because they only able to play their own way.

By that logic, letting any player leave in free agency isn't losing them for nothing, because it fills a void in the cap. Not really how it works. You aren't getting any actual assets back.

14 mil in cap isn't coming off the books either, since that isn't his current cap hit.
