Marner has reportedly hired private security and is refusing to speak with some members of the media

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I've been a long time Marner fan. But that "we're like gods here" comment was one of the most ignorant and tone-deaf things I can remember an athlete saying.

I don't feel he absolutely has to be traded. But he's the one I'd pick to move from the core four.

The personal security is one thing. He may be receiving a lot of hate mail right now. But to have certain topics that are off limits, or certain reports he refuses to speak to.

Marner is a baby. I hope they can manage to trade him this off season. I don't ever want to see him play for the Leafs again. One of my most disliked Leaf players ever.

Marner probably hired the security from the Toronto unhinged fans who are sending him death threats in his Sam's.

I thought his old man was bad come contract time, but Mitch isn't doing himself any favors.

Canadian vs American market. Up here when the club is winning the elite players are treated like Gods. When it turns there is no where to hide. Total anonymity down south, regardless of winning or losing. MM controls where he goes next and 100% it will be down south.
It’s not total anonymity, it’s respect for a person’s privacy to not hound them wherever they may pop up in public. Panthers players are recognized, people just say, “hi, how’s it going?” Maybe add in a, “Go Panthers!” and then they leave them alone.

Sure, but they published a story about something Mitle claimed he heard in his podcast.

Congrats on missing the point, and in rather spectacular fashion.

They were saying of all the hate he gets, this is the weirdest. Read the story.

What? You'd think Green would be ecstatic inking a four year deal.

Yeah, I don't care if he doesn't fetch a big haul. The team needs the cap space.
He has to coach in Canada and is likely the cheapest coach in the entire league. He will be fired and then out of the league within the next 2 years because nobody hires head coaches whos last job was in Ottawa.

Total anonymity in a handful of markets perhaps... Marner would not have many teams to select from if he wants zero media attention.

Is the reporter mad at Marner for not answering/taking a question from him? This report comes off as petty.

He likes to mention that he doesn't listen to or here the noise of Toronto.....

His actions seem to suggest otherwise.

Hiring private security isn't a big deal. Many pro athletes hire bodyguards. Especially if they have been threatened and let's face it, fans can be stupid. Whether the threats were credible or just someone being overzealous behind a keyboard is a different argument.

The report although ridiculous is about how Marner gets hate and uses a podcast where Mirtle says he heard those things. Why on earth a national newspaper would publish it is astonishing - to me anyway.

Did he hire private security?

uhm, I didnt ask him. I am saying if he did, I don't think it is as big of a story as some think. Many pro athletes have bodyguards.
