He's definitely getting more than 8M. Goals cost money and that's barely more than his qualifying offer.
He might not get eight figures, but he wont be far off.

Ya, both teams need to focus on defense. I don't think the proposal has a lot of merit because it doesn't focus on the teams' needs.
So.... is the fan club completely gone? This would normally be on page 49 by now......

Well since Marner is a better player and Laine will be looking for a similar contract to Marner after next season it's easy to see that this would be a bad move for the leafs
I am looking at the goals column and it looks like Laine has 55 more goals over the past 4 years than Marner. He also appears to be younger.

It all depends on Laine's next contract because Marner might be a tad overpaid but he's been the better player production wise.

It’s a fine deal and as a Laine fan I’d do it. Just makes me laugh when ppl say “u don’t need scoring u need...” as if the objective of hockey isn’t to score goals. ...

Marner is a more complete player, and Laine is going to get a similar deal as him. Agree to disagree however.

Doesn't really matter if the other guy is going to get 9-11 mil in a year and the other guy is a much less complete player.
Marner has earned his deals. By all accounts he’s a really good presence on the team. You can see it when they play, he puts forth way more effort in playing a complete game than Laine, who will be a ghost for stretches of games. I assume that’s why Laine is on the block.
Laine is undoubtedly a better goal scorer, there’s only a handful of guys in the league with his scoring talent. Marner is a better playmaker. Having said that, neither team makes this trade so this is a moot point.
