To Winnipeg: Marner
To Toronto: Laine + Depth Center + 1st
Um ya, the difference between the two is not a first and another piece. Besides Laine doesn't help Leafs they need defence, not more scoring. Marner though a winger actually is the playmaker who works well with a shoot first Mathews and has shown great chemistry with Tavares. Don't think the Jets are interested either. Contracts aside Marner has the edge though but not another first and centre added.

No need for such a trade, Jets are considering reducing cap spent on the wing to spend more at C and D.......getting Marner makes it even worse (meaning more cap on wing).

To be honest they’re probably closer to equal value when one considers their respective contract situations, what they’ve accomplished and potential. I think the 1st and depth center make this trade unfair to Winnipeg. Laine likely still has higher upside but Marner is the better player right now. The fact that Marner is paid for being a better player makes it closer to a wash where I can see both teams making arguments against the trade.

Laine @ 6.75M (although short term) > Marner @ 10.9M

This post is kinda dumb considering the reason Laine might be dealt is that he wants more money.

Laine doesn't do anything for Toronto. They have a 50g guy and a 40g guy already. They need other things.

Ik but a reasonable GM will probably sign him to something like an 8M contract long-term.

Luckily for Laine, a GM doesn't sign the contract for him.
