these seem to be going faster then nylander saga. What number did that get to?

edit: found the answer Nylander saga got to 44 threads. But interestingly Marners at 18 we hadn't even started Nylanders contract thread yet. Naïve of us imo

The start of the regular season is the real deadline here. Both sides will play games and dilly dally until the real deadline hits The Leafs can't afford to sign him to a contract after the season starts and have a higher salary cap hit in year one like they did with Nylander. Don't expect anything to get done until closer to the end of training camp or just before training camp starts at the earliest. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Some really hot golfing past weekend. Good way to lose a few extra pounds and get a nice tan.
No other NHL team is giving Mitch 12M+ per for a 5 year term deal. It is not happening. To give up 4 1st rounders for 5 years forget about it.
Once he figures it out then he will decide whether 11M works for 8 years or 10 to 10.5M for 6/7 years.
But no one is in a rush so this will go on until camp and maybe some team makes a mistake or Dubie makes a mistake. There is ZERO reason to get anything done now. Our roster is set for next year.
Enjoy the links gents!

ah longer then. so August to mid-December 50 threads! not bad, can we get Marner to 50 threads before pre season ends? (IMO marner doesn't attend camp)

I agree, but I do not feel like Marner does it willingly, especially after seeing what happened to Nylander. It'll be a pure Ferris decision.

Considering his $$ ask is based on pride and not security (as you likely know, Nylander wanted $$ because he knew it was possible he'd get dealt if money got really tight in the future so he at least wanted to make money if he wasn't playing in Toronto. It's a perfectly reasonable expectation on his end, even though he took it to the extremes until literally the very end), I'm not sure he wants to jeopardize his chances at having a good season by missing training camp.

I am sure the Leafs would be fine with it on their end. It's not going to be any more awkward than when Nylander randomly came back in December after holding out the entire time and I'm sure they want him ready; contract-in-hand or not.

Marner is waiting for Dubas to cave, while Dubas is waiting for Marner to cave and lower his ask/accept.

Is Marner going to get his $10.5 mil or is Dubas going to get his 7-8 year term at that rate?

What are the % odds of each occurring?

Thats why I assume itll be something like 6 x $10.5

Something neither side will necessarily LIKE but it would be a concession on both ends so, yeah?

Still an overpayment for Marner but I would think that would end this.

Ranta looking at going over to KHL. Avs around 6.3M per max. He may make same/more net at 4M per at 15% tax and no escrow withholding in KHL. Maybe another 8.5M OS coming here? It looks like this is where teams are willing to go.

I saw Trouba and Aho have signed.
Have any of the other big names signed yet?

Yea lets go to Russia! Didn't Nylander threaten the same thing with Sweden? Nylander had fools that gave him what he wanted, and Marner is hoping the same fools give him what he wants. Nylander might have gotten 2 million to play in Sweden (Marner may be able to demand half of that) and Ranta can get 4m to play in Russia (but ha, no escrow and wonderful culture of oppression), great choices compared what they can get in the NHL.

Looks like Matthews is by far the best player of the bunch.

Wow.
No wonder RFA's are not signing

Driasidel got 9 mil for 70 pts
Now a 100pt 0layer

They are low balling Ranta 6.3mil

if it gets to the point where Marner signs a offesheet in the 4 x 1sts region, id go for a $9M offersheet of Rantanen in a heartbeat. He adds size scored 30 goals. Yeah he played with McKinnon but he could play with Matthews or JT here too. We would end up saving ~$2M and gaining 2 1sts as well
Marner signs we get x teams 4 x 1sts
we offersheet Rantanen giving up 2 x 1st, 2nd and 3rd from our picks.

Also shoots left so could possibly switch over the LW too

Didn't the Leafs trade their 2020 3rd round pick to the Avs in the Kadri trade? Wouldn't they have to first re-acquire that 3rd round pick back from the Avs to send such an OS this summer?
