Value of: Marner as a UFA

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
The speculation is insane, he is playing through his contract but he is betting on himself before signing his next deal.

Takes guts to do that, could lower his value by playing poorly or god forbid he gets injured.

I'm guessing he is a leaf for the future and nothing he's done so far makes me think otherwise.

Sounds like Carolina asked and Toronto checked with Mitch. Prob knew he would say no but this gives them a little leverage in negotiations
leverage could go either way. he said no to a trade but can just wait to be free agent. do the leafs expect a discount, does marner expect the same deal rantanen was offered, are the leafs willing to lose him for nothing.

As an Islanders fan I would be willing to trade either our pick this year(assuming it's not top 10) or the lesser of ours our Colorado's pick next year if Toronto was willing to do a sign and trade(of coarse Marner would have to agree first). If a first rounder could give us an edge over other team(ie the 8th year) it would be well worth it

Not sure Leafs would do it though because if Islanders are offering more over 8 years it ruins their leverage they have over resigning him

Toronto has zero leverage. Mitch can do whatever he wants now.
I don't think Marner really wants to leave Toronto for say....Columbus like he threatened as an RFA

Toronto should hold firm and offer him 12.5-12.75 x 8

If he doesn't like it there are a lot of good young UFAs on the market and we can take his salary and sign a couple of them

Somebody needs to sneak into his parents house and look at all their photo books to see if they have any pictures of him wearing Leafs' pajamas.
Its happening. No chance the league nor McDavid allow him to waste away in Edmonton for his whole career.

TOR, LA, or NYC are real opportunities for the league to promote the league more.

As much as I'd like Marner to sign w/Carolina, Toronto gives him the 8th year if he signs before July 1, right?

Unless someone offers him 15+mil x 7, he leaves money on the table. Then he can continue to play for his hometown team and his buddies.
