Marlies, Cyclones, and Prospect Discussion

Came up with a more comprehensive list of external prospect targets. If the Leafs can largely build from this list, I think they'll be in a good spot. Every single player is an '01 or younger. The Europeans mentioned are '02's who don't seem to have a contract in place next year and the CHLers don't currently have NCAA commitments. A lot probably get ELC's so can only get some, not all.

Forwards:
Vasily Atanasov - KHL
Vitali Pinchuk - KHL
Theodor Niederbach - SHL
Carsen Dorwart - NCAA
TJ Hughes - NCAA
Jack Stockfish - NCAA
Liam McLinskey - NCAA
Jack Williams - NCAA (ELC with Columbus)
Ryan Kirwan - NCAA
Artem Schlaine - NCAA
Ellis Rickwood - NCAA
Sam Alfano - OHL
Beau Jelsma - OHL
Landen Hookey - OHL
Landon Sim - OHL
Brayden Edwards - WHL
Oasiz Wiesblatt - WHL

Defense:
Mac Gadowsky - NCAA
Caleb MacDonald - NCAA
Alex Pineau - NCAA
Jacob Truscott - NCAA
Spencer Sova - OHL
Hunter Mayo - WHL

Goalies (AHL deals)
TJ Semptimphelter - NCAA
Cameron Rowe - NCAA

Was there any particular reason Kirwan transferred from Penn State to ASU and what led to his big increase in scoring?

Does his potential merit an NHL deal in the future?

Feels like the organization is giving him some more ice time down there as a courtesy

Maybe... or maybe he needs to keep somewhat Fresh, if they need him the playoffs at any point, for any reason. Or maybe he just wanted to play some hockey?

How has Cade Weber been this year? We shouldn’t expect points from him so anyone that’s actually watched him play able to provide feedback?

From the games I've seen, pretty average. Hasn't really developed beyond what you'd think of him. I do think he's gotten more physical but outside of that, not sure I see much.

Easton Cowan has 9 pts, 4 goals, +7 in 4 gp. Knights sweep Owen Sound.

Ben Danford has 2 pts in 4gp, even. Oshawa generals lead their series against Steel Heads 3-1

Oil Kings are up 3-1 but Miroslav Holinka has 0 pts -1 in 4gp. Likely getting hard match up and fatigue a factor? It's the most he's played in a season.

Noah Chadwick has 3 pts in 4gp, +2 Lethbridge Hurricanes up 3-1 over Brandon Wheat Kings.

Looks like the 4 primary prospects in the CHL prospect that come to mind will be going to 2nd round most likely.

What about Villeneuve? Seems to be the Marlies most promising defender. Any chance he can make the big club in a few years, even as a 6RD?

Also for CHL prospects :

Borya Valis has 4 points in 4 games, -1 for PG Cougars currently down 3-1 to Portland.

Mayes has 3 points in 4 games +6 for Spokane up 3-1 vs the Giants

and Sam McCue hasn't gotten on the board yet, 0-0 -2 as Flint is down 3-1to Kitchener.

Have you gotten to see much of Sam McCue?

I got to see one game and I don't know if he was extra feisty or not but I got some Brandan Hagel vibes in terms of play style...like prior to the break out in Tampa. Ryan Hartman is also another guy that is a bit similar too now that I think of that one game.

I have not, but was stat watching after the trade and he was absolutely lighting it up (18 goals in 20 games) so I wonder if hes just been snake bitten or getting unlucky or locked down or what.

But hes got 12 PIM in those 4 games so must be pretty fiesty.

Game 1: 1 slash, 1 rough
Game 2: 1 rough, 1 misconduct
Game 3: 1 unsportsmanlike conduct
Game 4: 1 rough, 1 unsportsmanlike conduct, 2 misconduct's

Doesn't get PIM for the 3 misconduct penalties I guess.

Very good progression in the last year. He's been a very good 2-way defenseman for the Marlies this season and playing in all situations doing well. He moves the puck very good and makes smart plays with the puck. Him, Rifai and Niemela have been the better part of the defensive core there from my viewings. Kokkonen has been ok but his skills are very limited with the puck, same with Webber.

Villaneuve's positive season kind of makes up for Niemela's poor season.

They’ve kinda flipped roles this year, namely on the PP.
In either case, it’s a big summer for both guys: both are RFA, both will be waivers eligible, and the only real job on the Leafs D is 3RD.

If I'm looking ahead to next year for the next Steeves/McMann like riser on the Marlies. Villeneuve would be a good guess. He's pretty decent already, if he takes a step another after gaining experience these last few years he would be in line for a promotion.

He's 6'2 and a right shot, mobility seems to be alright...and I can't say Myers or Benoit have cemented a job.

Marlies down 2-0 after three shots, Gruden with the quick hook. Hildeby out, AA in.
