Marlies, Cyclones, and Prospect Discussion

Haymes with a beauty steal off a careless pass, deke and backhand goal.

Taking regular shifts, good linemates, calm and creative with the puck in the ozone.

Lazy drone coverage on his first shift lead to a chance.

Marlies in rarified air, leading 2-0 in the first.

Really like how WillyNeuve moves across the blue line with the puck. Opens passing and shooting lanes, smooth lateral movement.

Villeneuve is definitely an underrated prospect. Not sure about his ceiling but everytime I watch the Marlies he plays really well. At the very least I think he can be a competent call-up defenseman... and he's a RHD.

Haymes with a 4pn4 assist, snapper the goalie couldn’t hold, dropped, that Joe Blandisi smacked home.

That was the second Marlies goal of the period, up 4-1. A veritable explosion of offence for them lately.

Who are the heavy weight fighters in this year's draft? I would like to draft the toughest sob in junior hockey with one of our mid picks.

Seems like Quillan is standing out more and more as a legit option. What do regular Marlies watchers think?
He was pretty quiet today. But 10pts/12 games since the AHL break and a slightly higher rate since the Minten trade.
He’s pretty responsible though, good pace. Skates pretty well, transitions to and from offence pretty well, isn’t afraid of contact. Generally good to produce one to two grade A chances a game. Good hands, decent stick.
Not a priority on either special team, but gets some pk time. Seems fine on the draw.
I could see a fourth line role pretty easily, with room to grow.

Thanks good breakdown.

He was pretty noticeable early in the game.
Confident is a good word for him. Comfortable with the puck on his stick.
Did miss a couple of defensive assignments, but good hands and seems to see the ice pretty well. For a second pro game, hard to complain.
I think the org wants him to succeed a lil extra - he lined up with two players on NHL deals today. This didn’t happen for Quillan until after the AHL break.

Is Haymes a C?

Is Haymes a C?
Yup.
Actually, thanks for asking….reminded me. Second point about the organization pushing opportunity for him - Cedric Pare (veteran pro C) got moved to the wing for him.
He was attentive in all zones, but like I said, lost his assignment at his own blue line two times I noticed.

Also, Marlies collapsed pretty hard in the second, up 4-1. Islanders second goal was a tip that was a high stick, and everything fell apart. WillyNeuve got walked shortly after by Liam Foudy (who can fly and was a man possessed this game). Other missed assignments. AA was humming along til then, too, but also seemed rattled.
