Marlies, Cyclones, and Prospect Discussion

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Came up with a more comprehensive list of external prospect targets. If the Leafs can largely build from this list, I think they'll be in a good spot. Every single player is an '01 or younger. The Europeans mentioned are '02's who don't seem to have a contract in place next year and the CHLers don't currently have NCAA commitments. A lot probably get ELC's so can only get some, not all.

Forwards:
Vasily Atanasov - KHL
Vitali Pinchuk - KHL
Theodor Niederbach - SHL
Carsen Dorwart - NCAA
TJ Hughes - NCAA
Jack Stockfish - NCAA
Liam McLinskey - NCAA
Jack Williams - NCAA (ELC with Columbus)
Ryan Kirwan - NCAA
Artem Schlaine - NCAA
Ellis Rickwood - NCAA
Sam Alfano - OHL
Beau Jelsma - OHL
Landen Hookey - OHL
Landon Sim - OHL
Brayden Edwards - WHL
Oasiz Wiesblatt - WHL

Defense:
Mac Gadowsky - NCAA
Caleb MacDonald - NCAA
Alex Pineau - NCAA
Jacob Truscott - NCAA
Spencer Sova - OHL
Hunter Mayo - WHL

Goalies (AHL deals)
TJ Semptimphelter - NCAA
Cameron Rowe - NCAA
Beau Jelsma, Spencer Sova and TJ Semptimphelter are 3 names I recognize from being at 1 of our dev camps the last 2-3 years. Idk if there's anymore but Jelsma and Sova would be good players to take a chance on. TJ is a goalie and all I can go on for goalies is their stats because idk what makes a good goalie. I have my preferences where I prefer a calm goalie who isn't fishing around the crease and idk if he's either of those things because I haven't really seen him play.

Ticker on TSN showed a bunch of UDFA guys signing throughout the league today, most recognizable name to me was Jack Williams (to Columbus, I think).

His 2 games at C were his 2 best games.

Come training camp, I would try him out between 2 good wingers to see if he sinks or swims at the position. Compared to the other options on the roster, he might not be any worse.

I would not mind him centering Nylander who can drive the line himself and would put less pressure on Cowan. He also has the speed to keep up to Nylander.

Domi with Matthews
Marner with Tavares
Cowan with Nylander

Knies, McMann, and X to complete the top 3 lines.

I think Laughton ends up 4C next year. Kampf ejected to siberia, and I am not sure what happens to Robertson.
If the transition him to center he will need time in with the Marlies.
Quinlan maybe Kampfs replacement

Anyone have any insight on how Hudson Malinoski has played this year? His stats don’t look that impressive on first glance but he actually leads his team in points and goals. Providence must be playing a very defensive style. Is he playing Center or wing?

Watching this 3rd period of the Providence vs Denver game and it looks like he's playing C and 1 of the only good shifts 5v5 Providence had was the Malinoski line. Looks like he's on PP2 this year. Connelly and Mustard joining the team is probably the reason for that. Providence does not look like a great team this period and they must rely on a defensive game with only 3 guys scoring 10 goals ad Malinoski leading the team in points with 23. Just got kicked out the last minute for finishing a check which was clean and the Denver guy broke his stick over him by cross checking him. So idk if that's in his game consistently or not but that'd be nice if he's always finishing checks like that on the forecheck.

Marlies having a rough time generating any offence.
Todd Crocker did mention that there’s plans for Haymes and Prokop to get in games this weekend. Playing Saturday at 7 and Sunday at 4.

Quillan’s offense is starting to pick up
It really does feel like Quillan’s development contributed to the decision that Minten was fair to trade.

I hope it was the right decision, but no complaints with the Carlo trade. He was a long overdue addition and should be a significant contributor for quite a while moving forward.

Hard to find splits, but I bet he’s near a ppg since the all-star break.

Ryan Tverberg the exact opposite. He was around 10-12 pts at the 15 game mark, and since that…..next to nothing. I wonder if there’s some kinda injury in there?

Not to knock his accomplishment, but for those unfamiliar with this award, this is an Oshawa Generals team award.

The Gens named him their best defenseman of the year (as opposed to an OHL or CHL award)

Danford projects as a bottom pairing guy at best. Probably not worth a first round pick.

There’s no question the organization was lacking good defensive D during the Dubas era but I think they’ve overcorrected under Tre. Now the leafs D with an ageing Rielly looks very slow and they desperately need an offensive two way puck mover.
