It's the first round of the playoffs.

What great skating this kid has at 18. The way he uses the net, breakouts, you can see he thinks the pro game. This is the kid who was listed at 140lbs at the draft right? He’s up to 165lbs. I also recall he has a nasty edge to him (100 pims this year)

He’s a project but I’m liking what I see so far. We also liked a lot of prospects who fizzled out coming to NA. But who knows .

Would expect re-shaping the prospect system will go deeper than just a few ELC's. Aside from Chas Sharpe, who signed for 2yrs anyways, not many of the AHL signings have had the greatest years and could conceivably move on. Wouldn't be shocked if a few of the '03's pivot to USports now that that option opened up. None of the pure AHL contract rotation guys have stood out and most of the Cyclones on AHL deals are in the same boat, aside from Sharpe as mentioned. Barbolini and Parsons also signed for 2ys, but I could see Stevens, Gosselin, Frasca, Sikic, and McCleary being one-and-done and maybe some AHL signed depth like Mastrosimone, Solow, and Miller move on after a few years here - and this is before getting into NHL contract turnover.

I bet we see a lot of new AHL signings to fill out the Marlies and Cyclones too - as many as 8-10 total at any positions.

ASU is a team with a few solid 5th year options - Sillinger, Schlaine, Beck, Jackson Twins for AHL deals.

I'd say it's more ideal if these AHL signings are at oldest 01's just so they have a bit of rope to develop through the ECHL and AHL, but a few may be '99 and '00 just to fill rosters out.

Marlies aren’t much excitement to watch these days. Still, pulled off a nice 4-2 win. Jacob Quillan had the fourth goal to ice the win. Alex Steeves had one, too.

I would be extremely interested in Korczak, and would be such a smart under the radar pick-up.

I don't dislike Benoit in any way, and I think Myers can continue to develop for us, but Korczak would be a good and smart add.

I think a pairing with OEL would be mutually beneficial for both players, with OEL being allowed to play his natural left side, and Korczak growing under his tutelage on ice, and their styles of play look like they would complement and mesh well together.

Love how competently Treliving has been at building our RHD, when Dumbass spent years ignoring it, putting LHD band aids and selling us out to hang onto an empty bag in Holl.

Tanev, Carlo, Myers, Danford. Not there yet but getting there. Add Korczak and our defence has a lot to like.

It's just great because you're getting someone at a great age that can be apart of the team long term, in theory as he gets better, Tanev is winding down.

I don't know where to put this but it looks like after the NHL draft this season , we are going back to the way it was .
Thank God.
It was a dumb idea to begin with .
Love watching the interaction GMs fans players ect
Ted rogers will go after mcdavid if hes available

He definitely is too smart to close the door on him being a 2c which is why I would have traded Cowan if the first became a second instead
In Cowan's first rookie tournament, he did play Center for a couple of games
I thought that was where he looked best and his best games utilizing all his skil 200' game passing and skating.
He is smart enough to play all positions.

I've got this weird feeling Minten will become a solid 2C-3C for Boston that will haunt us for the next decade lol

I see him more of the next Daniel Paille/Rich Peverley for Boston. Just a solid defensive center. Might have some good offensive years sprinkled in but a solid bottom six center who can kill penalties and score timely goals.

Quillan seems like someone who can step into that fourth line center role next season. Would really like to see some internal growth with some prospects.
The Leafs have a long history of not giving prospects an NHL opportunity unless they're the "top prospects" Quillan and Steeves both scream NHLers to me

Came up with a more comprehensive list of external prospect targets. If the Leafs can largely build from this list, I think they'll be in a good spot. Every single player is an '01 or younger. The Europeans mentioned are '02's who don't seem to have a contract in place next year and the CHLers don't currently have NCAA commitments. A lot probably get ELC's so can only get some, not all.

Forwards:
Vasily Atanasov - KHL
Vitali Pinchuk - KHL
Theodor Niederbach - SHL
Carsen Dorwart - NCAA
TJ Hughes - NCAA
Jack Stockfish - NCAA
Liam McLinskey - NCAA
Jack Williams - NCAA (ELC with Columbus)
Ryan Kirwan - NCAA
Artem Schlaine - NCAA
Ellis Rickwood - NCAA
Sam Alfano - OHL
Beau Jelsma - OHL
Landen Hookey - OHL
Landon Sim - OHL
Brayden Edwards - WHL
Oasiz Wiesblatt - WHL

Defense:
Mac Gadowsky - NCAA
Caleb MacDonald - NCAA
Alex Pineau - NCAA
Jacob Truscott - NCAA
Spencer Sova - OHL
Hunter Mayo - WHL

Goalies (AHL deals)
TJ Semptimphelter - NCAA
Cameron Rowe - NCAA

Love your posts.

Good list. I particularly really like Carsen Dorwart, Liam McLinskey, Jack Stockfish and Sam Alfano. Sam Alfano reminds me A LOT of Mason Marchment. I also believe Spencer Sova was at the Leafs dev. camp once or twice, but I could be wrong?

A KHL free agent that should fit in your list is Danil Aimurzin. 57 points in 66 games. Not sure about his contract though.

Another KHL free agent for me is Max Shabanov. He's 24 so doesn't fit the 01 and younger but I still think there's a player there with the right development. Not sure about his contract either.

His 2 games at C were his 2 best games.

Come training camp, I would try him out between 2 good wingers to see if he sinks or swims at the position. Compared to the other options on the roster, he might not be any worse.

I would not mind him centering Nylander who can drive the line himself and would put less pressure on Cowan. He also has the speed to keep up to Nylander.

Domi with Matthews
Marner with Tavares
Cowan with Nylander

Knies, McMann, and X to complete the top 3 lines.

I think Laughton ends up 4C next year. Kampf ejected to siberia, and I am not sure what happens to Robertson.
