Quillan’s production has really picked up in the second half, but has been generating chances all year. Plays with good pace.

Is it possible that the leafs staff viewed Minten as repalceable by a guy like Quillan? Just throwing it out there but they have watched them closely all season
They also were in London for Cowan’s hat trick last week so maybe they liked what they saw and decided to keep him unless the offer was like a Rantannan type

Yeah and I like our chances of landing a couple good prospects with our second and third rounders this year. We have a good scouting staff
I imagine that’s the thinking, or even this class of college UDFA’s.
If they can sign a couple from the top of the class, the current prospect pool is roughly the same as it was.
Not to downplay Minten’s upside, he could end up anywhere from 4c to 2c depending on situations and having a legit line driver. But most project him as an excellent 4c, capable 3C….there’s a couple UDFA kids who project that way.
Could be a big summer for Topi and WillyNeuve. The only real open spot on the D for the next few years is 3RD and they’d be competing with Phillipe Myers - assuming no one else is brought in.

Pretty sure. That's how he's listed on the Marlies roster and the AHL game summaries. Wish they had semi regular game broadcasts.

It'll be interesting to navigate the prospect turnover this summer.
Of U25 prospects, they'll have Kokkonen, Hirvonen, Niemela, Villeneuve, and Hildeby expiring as RFA's. Tverberg still has one-year term from the '20 class and can hopefully return closer to 23-24 form. I can envision movement on Niemela mainly, but could see the others back.
Cowan, Chadwick, and Valis will turn Pro and Sharpe is probably the main consideration to jump from ECHL to AHL full time - Kressler and Voit too I suppose. Holinka and McCue are late '05's so they could even do it too if TOR decides. They have all of Koster, Miller, Fusco, Schingoethe, Moldenhauer, and Malinoski in the NCAA now - a few probably expire and are non-prospects; but I wonder about Miller and Malinoski imminently the most. Do they bring Obvintsev over too? He's completely on the sidelines in his current org
Then you get into the FA class, which will largely be NCAA-based because most CHL OA's are going there instead of Pro. Valis was one, and the only CHL find in the league, so far. I wonder about Sam Alfano still. Tre scouted an Erie-Owen Sound game awhile back post McCue to Flint trade. TOR has been linked to two of the marquee NCAA names in Haymes and Dorwart, and also D Caleb MacDonald . They also had Hutson and Ricketts at Dev Camp last year - the latter being older and more of an AHL deal consideration. They could get in on the Euro market too, but haven't been too solidly linked to anyone from what I've seen yet.
25-26 Marlies:

Has Jacob Quillan been playing centre and doing PK duty? Just wondering if he can be an internal 4C guy if they move off Kampf.

I believe he had good face offs in NCAA.

I'm not sure how often he has been used on the PK. But, like Minten, he does seem to be a natural center, he has spent the majority of his time in the middle. He is also noticeably good defensively, he's very trustworthy out there.
I think it was easier to move off Minten because Quillan is so similar in ability. I like his chances to become a bottom-6 NHL center that excels defensively.

No sense not bringing all the RFA’s back. Will be interesting to see what happens with Niemela. Maybe he puts in the work the org wants, and if he does, he could conceivably be in the mix for 3RD next year.
I hadn’t given much thought to McCue/Malinoski or Holinka for next year, but there are cases to be made. I do think Malinoski is tracking well enough. McCue trending the right way. I’m not sure if the A is the best best bet for the three, but the Marlies like their vets too. Agreed too, Miller seems like he’d make a good AHLer.
Both Steeves and Abruzzese being group 6 guys and Nylander expiring might mean big opportunities for forwards. Maybe that’ll be more desirable to the top of the UDFA class (Haymes, Dorwart…you can maybe add in Bancroft and Hughes with their local connections).
Much like the Leafa, the G and D seem relatively set. So, full on sweep to fill the forward ranks.
