Steeves is just on another level compared to everyone else down on the Marlies. To say he has earned an opportunity to play some consecutive games here is an understatement. He is another homegrown McMann styled winger. He should bring secondary scoring and grit to the lineup. I think this move to the Leafs could be permanent. I certainly wouldn't be fueled with rage to see Holmberg hit waivers if there are no available roster spots.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

I thought McMan and Steeves were Rookies on the Marlies together and were racing for the Marlies rookie goal scoring record? I believe they finished one goal apart as well.

Steeves currently 25, McMann currently 28.

So those of you who love McMann (and there are lots of them) should also have time for Steeves as well.

I've been pushing for Steeves to get a proper look but I think the one big separator between the two is their speed. McMann is an excellent skater and very fast and strong on his skates, Steeves unfortunately just does not possess that same first step. That being said I thought he looked decent in his earlier stint this season and he should get 15-20 games, especially when we've given so much rope to Robertson, Holmberg and others.

We don't need to send anyone down, to be cap compliant. We do need to send down one body, to be at the 23 man roster limit, but Grebenkin can be sent down without issue.

I'm on the fence with whom I'd put on waivers, if that move became necessary. Holmberg doesn't provide much offensively, but we don't get scored on much when he's on the ice either. He can play C, and if we end up having to move Kampf, to pick up other players, he is the next best C, whom we could play on the fourth line. Our GF/60 worst performers right now are... Dewar, Reaves, Holmberg, Robertson, Kampf... in order.

A guy in Robertson, who is playing third line minutes, shouldn't be down that low. I'd give Steeves a shot on the third line, in Robertson's spot, and see if he can use the minutes more effectively, and then if he can, move Robertson for whatever. (Noting, everytime I begin to doubt Robertson, he scores a few goals... then when I go ok... he's figured it out, it stops again)

Head coach Craig Berube was asked by reporters what Steeves will need to do to stick with the NHL squad long-term and he boiled it down to taking advantage of what is in front of him.

“Opportunity is everything, for sure, and the situation is everything for a lot of players,” he said. “He probably needs a good opportunity and a good situation. But that might happen here. We don’t know that right now. We are where we are and we will see how it goes. But he has played some games this year for sure and been a pretty effective player for us up here with limited ice time.”

Berube added that he got to watch the Marlies play at their Family Day matinee at Scotiabank Arena on Monday and signed out Steeves’ performance as outstanding. In what was one of his best games of the AHL season so far, he picked up a goal and two assists to help guide the team to a 7-2 win over Laval Rocket.

With that showing, it brought his totals on the season to 46 points (29 goals and 17 assists) in 40 games played which is good enough for third in the AHL in scoring behind only Chris Terry and Andrew Poturalski. It helped earn Steeves a spot in the 2025 AHL All-Star game for a second consecutive campaign. Yet it has not been enough to crack the Leafs’ roster penalty as it has only gotten him into 11 NHL games spread across four seasons up to this point.
Although he is surely feeling frustrated for not yet making the jump to the NHL after dominating in the league below, Steeves is focused on being the best he can be regardless of where he is needed.
“ For me, it’s not thinking about it too much, wherever I get slotted in, or whatever it may be. The bottom line is I’m here to help the team win games if they need me,” he said to reporters. “ Not reading into being perfect or anything like that or what type of role you should play. I think nobody knows the best version of my game better than myself and just having confidence in that.”
If there is anyone on the team Steeves can look up to in terms of not giving up despite the mounting odds is the success story of his good friend Bobby McMann. After working his way up from the ECHL, he secured a spot on the team midway through last season and has become a mainstay ever since. Nothing was given to McMann and he had to earn the opportunities he got and make the most of them when they came.
Steeves will be a Group 6 UFA at season’s end if he goes unsigned so the future remains uncertain for Steeves in the Leafs organization. He has stated that while his desire remains to make it work in Toronto, he is prepared to take his talents elsewhere because he has confidence in his abilities to make it work in the NHL. There is plenty of reason to believe that he is at least deserving of a longer look given how well he has done with the Marlies and the need the Leafs have for secondary scoring.

Where can I get a Kyle Clifford Marlies jersey?

You can get Marlies Jersey's here... I think you'd have to get the lettering and numbers elsewhere.

This is the link from the Marlies website... Real Sports... you can get the white jersey too.

Yeah I saw that link but there were no customization options which is the main thing I was wanting.

I'd like to see Steeves get an aggressive tryout, not much to lose in seeing if the organization finally has something with the guy

Berube doesn't agree with you, I don't think most people in hockey would.

He is clearly an NHL player and has shown flashes of being pretty good, if we are trying out prospects, I'd rather work with the one with the most upside.

Currently on a 21 point pace averaging about 12 min a night.

I think he's got a chance to establish himself as an NHL level full-time player but I don't have much confidence he's going to be here long term, especially after last off-season difficult negotiations

I think if Robertson showed more, he'd play more.

His 11:02 ES TOI/g, puts him at the 3rd,.-4th. line area code.

I think he's in a position where he really needs to win the coaches over and it just hasn't happened for whatever reason.

I think he's got raw talent and I can see in randomly just one day clicking. I just got a feeling that happens with another organization.

But we'll see

Great sequence Leskovar is one tough customer and Danford wasn't bothered a bit.
You’re right, such a great sequence. For those that have seen him (Danford)more (I’ve only seen a few highlights), does he come across as a Jake McCabe type? Physical, picks his spots well, just okay offensive instincts, pretty good skating (but not great) with the ability to break up cycles and get the puck up the ice?

From what I’ve read and seen, a right handed McCabe makes sense. Maybe a Trouba style as well. There’s always going to be a need for no-nonsense, tough rhd who can skate and break up plays.

i could see that but probably not gonna be as physical as McCabe at the next level. I also see some Adam Pelech in him.

WELL, I have heard nothing but downvotes for Ben reading up on his season.

That particular sequence maybe makes him a more valuable trade chip.
That was AWESOME!!!
