No rational person would expect someone thrown in with 4th liners is going to produce. He hasn’t really ever been given the opportunity to play with offensive players.
I haven’t seen anything particularly good in 11 nhl games and numerous training camps. Not surprised that up to this point he hasn’t been given more opportunity. With his current AHL performance though he is definitely pounding on the door and really should get a chance. The Eastern Conference is a bloodbath atm so not surprised that teams are being cautious with their moves.

I'd be surprised if he didn't have better goal totals than Robertson with the same opportunity

He's never had anybody to play with, he's a goal scoring winger so he needs a playmaking center or wing on his line to help him produce

He's a good player but he's not good enough to provide for himself

Yep, Leafs have 2 centers and a rotating audition for 2 other center spots.

Steeves might do well with a real center in the NHL.

Even just give him a wing he can work with

I'd like to know what he is before he leaves the organization, he's played on the 4th line but those guys aren't going to help him create offensively

We're thrilled that they get the puck in the o-zone even if they have no idea what to do then.

Less than 8:00 a night for his first 6 games is not an actual look. 10:14 last year but for only 1 game. I don't recall those games but they had other more high profile wingers and they might not have liked his pace or they simply didn't have a need for where he might fit.

This season 4 x 11:01 though which is a look. Not an actual chance which is what he needs now. 11 hits in 44 minutes so he is trying to make a difference. Hyman got over 16:00 a night for his first 13 games in 16-17 and had 1 assist. Not saying they need to give Steeves that much but most players need a bit of time. Why let him leave the organization without ever seeing what he might do? How much worse than 2019 Mason Marchment can he be?
