Boro should be traded regardless of the return. There is no room for the guy going forward.

Probably going to sign him to a 5 year 2.5 mill contract.

I think Boro is a smart guy with how he's been able to hoodwink a 400 game NHL career for which 350 of those he was one of the worst players in the league. Now at 30 years old he might actually have developed into an NHLer, but how long is that gonna last? He's 30, still a replacement level bottom pair d, a slow skater who is only going to get slower, and plays a style where his body is gonna break down quicker.

He probably understands that if he leaves this team he's gonna be out of the league pretty soon. Other teams simply don't glorify marginal players like the senators do.

If I was Boro I would aim for a long term contract while leaving money on the table. Dorion is probably dumb enough to do it.

Well there is definitely room for him next year if we play Brannstrom on the right side. If we sign him on a two year deal we can probably trade him next year or the year after. Not really worried about him one way or the other.

I don't know. Getting Reilly pretty much sealed his fate. Even with Brann playing the right side.

Chabot - Zaitsev
Wolanin - Brann
Rielly - Demelo

Then you still got Jaros that should get more games next year than this year. Lajoie who hopefully recovers more and gets more games in. Then you got the next wave that might see a game or two like Thomson, JBD and Alsing.

Boro should be done with this org.

DeMelo is a UFA and could also not be here. Their status may very well depend on what happens with the other.

He's not going to be expensive, he battles, he's a good bottom pair defenseman and brings a physical element thats rare in this modern day, soft NHL. He's a local guy who cares about the team and the city, and by everything we hear and read is respected by the brass and his fellow players.

I might be in the minority, but i dont find him nearly as bad as people around here seem to believe.

I hope they lock him up.

Yip, I am well aware of that. What I'm inferring is that Demelo should be re-signed as he's become an important part of this D corps. In any case, he's a RHD which has little affect on Boro as far as I am concerned.

Good stuff. Just saw you had him penciled in the lineup.

I second that. Despite what a lot of people here think, his play isn’t terrible and what he brings is highly sought after in today’s NHL.

In fact, he is almost precisely what this team needs until the rebuild is complete.

what an awful take. Boro won't "probably" be signing for 5 years anywhere, let alone here

Boro was able to create a career for himself by doing what the coach....you know the guy that distributes ice time....wants from his D

You should easily be able to see the difference in his game this year compared to prior years. And if you can't there's a few good recent interviews with him during which he talks about his changing role over time

I'll credit him for being smart. By the time he's done he'll have made > 10M by playing the way he's been asked to play.

I don't think anyone is going to mistake him for a bonafide top 4 d man, but at this point it seems likely that he will rack up 500 nhl games and spend the rest of his days a celebrity in this town

I was thinking to myself he's been getting a lot of goals off the rush. When I checked the stats, he's apparently 5th in the league among Dmen in rush shot attempts (6 total 5v5). That number seems low to be 5th league wide even if it is among D only, so I'm not sure what to think of it.

Leading the league in hits year after year is a real nice stat for a Dman. He’s a bottom pairing guy, but he had an elite talent or two on his resume. He can hit hard and often, one of the few guys who enjoys it.

Then of course he has that Volchenkov factor of being fearless when it comes to shotblocking, and is as tough as nails. Add that he is a great team mate, will fight when needed, and is a local kid, and he ticks so many more boxes than a typical 3 pairing defenseman on any team (Wideman?). The fact that he slimmed down and can actually play solid defence in his somewhat limited role and is used in the PK is great. And the icing is that he’s now scoring goals and points here and there.

He should be signed, and ideally finish out his career with the Sens. I think he’s another guy who nicely represents the culture the Sens have been working to create. He has also worked his ass of and deserves a reup from the team in my opinion.

If the team choses not to even offer him a contract, will you be disappointed in Dorion?

Given his rise in performance they have to at least make an offer.
Just be realistic about it! You don't want to be buying him out in the next few years!

I will be. Boro has improved leaps and bounds with age, especially in recent years. Bone headed plays are part of his resume, but he is making less of them I find. Grit, leadership, loyalty, do anything for your team....like someone here mentioned rightfully, he is elite in hits and shot blocking and everyone in the league knows when he is on the ice.

He is a good bottom pairing guy, or at least a depth 7th on a legit contender because of everything he brings as part of the package.

Has he fought this year? I don't recall him "sticking up" for players much as he used to. Definitely thinking about his contract. And good for him, I would be too, but he is what he is, Dorion, don't mess this up

2 reg season fights and a preseason fight this year, fought Josh Anderson after he hit Milano who was going down awkwardly. Fought Lemeiux early in the season who was going after Pageau, so he stood up for someone there. Don't recall what happened in preseason nor do I care to look it up, probably somebody just trying to make an impression

It was Zack MacEwen (12 total NHL games, 4 prior to this season) so it sounds exactly like what you thought (re: making an impression).

Unrelated, but Boro has fought a Blue Jacket 7 times (Anderson X2, Boll X2, Dorsett X2), that's more than double any other team. Didn't realize he had a nice little personal rivalry going with that team
