Mark Scheifele sued by former personal chef

Do you think teachers get a raise every time they get a new student?

I have teaching experience, and it wouldn't have mattered to me if I was teaching one or two students, so long as the curriculum remained the same

You're getting paid for your time, so long as you're not having to put in a significant amount of additional time, I don't see it as something worth losing a job over
If I wasn't clear, that is teaching private lessons. Of course, teaching in a classroom setting is a fixed salary. But we aren't talking about a chef cooking at a restaurant, we are talking about a private chef. The analogy is perfectly applicable, and no, I do not charge the same to teach 1 student as I would to teach 2, regardless of curriculum. That is the market where I live.

We are all guessing here, but if there is another professional athlete mouth to feed, I think it would be fair to assume that athlete number 2 would have their own specific dietary regimen. And where is the second player eating? Does he live with Scheifele? To be honest, the whole thing just makes Scheifele, a millionaire many times over, come across as cheap. If he has a buddy who wants the services of his chef he should give a proper referral.

I'm still amazed that a personal chef would only cost 50k annually.

I've taught private lessons in the past, and as I said, so long as the curriculum remained the same, I wouldn't have seen it as a big deal

50k annually, but that wouldn't have been full time hours since Scheifele would've been on the road a lot

Plus, it's not like a restaurant where he's cooking for 8+ hours per shift

You must be more kindhearted than I am. Hypothetically, 1 student at 50/hr or two at 75/hr. Student 1 gets full teacher attention and a lesson crafted exactly for their needs. The latter scenario is cheaper per student and lesson is designed with both students' needs.

If Scheifele wanted his chef to cook for someone else he should pay more.

If classes sizes are increasing you bet your ass that the teacher's are going to be asking for more when negotiations come around.

It's amazing to see how multi-millionaires are getting coddled here.

More bad publicity for penny pinching NHL hockey players.

Cheap.
Pretty much this.

I know quite a few personal stories from Edmonton where players push for deals on retail goods, food, and service. Some get used to the entitlement. Helps to have a lot of power, status, and an agent/lawyer to do your bidding. I'm sure many of us common folk would change too.

The flipside is the real nice-guys who are overly generous and end up broke (see Theo Fleury).

iirc A recent Chiclets podcast with Eichel he talked about having a chef come over for pre-game meals. When he'd invite over more guys he mentioned about them chipping-in (iirc). So Eichel, for example, has a guy he seems to pay per meal.

I'm honestly surprised teams don't have services like this for their players. When you're paying that much salary to young men who may have no idea how to cook for themselves or put together a healthy diet, it makes sense to help them.

Ferraro was talking about this recently on TSN on Overdrive. But he referenced that Detroit cooks meals all day for their guys when they are in town and Larkin admitted he just goes to the rink because he lives downtown and just gets fed at the LCA. So they do have this at some of the places.

I'm face palming so hard reading that guy's replies
