Playing him with the 4th line tells me that they want him to get his 5 games but they don't really want him to have a huge break-out in those 5 games so they can send him down.

You have a top 6 forward (projected). You don't play him with a good defensive face-off specialist / penalty killer and an interchangeable part (sorry Thorbs) that could be swapped out with about 300 other players with little noticeable drop-off in results. You do play him with players of like or complimentary talent. At least you do if you want to see his offense bloom.

Agreed.

Do you think the Jets are commited to keeping him with the NHL this year, or sending him back to the OHL? I would be surprised if they didn't know what they were going to do with him by this point.

Things can change with an injury or two, but they should have an idea if they are going to send him back or keep him. I'm thinking they are sending him back, barring injuries.

Really tough for me to say at this point Bob.

I have no problem with Noel playing Mark on the 4th line for now if they plan to keep him up this season. I would be dissapointed if they played him off the 4th line and sent him down.

I think Scheifele seriously proved himself on first two games. Noel should give him more icetime on next couple of games (maybe second line).
What I´ve seen from first two games, think Wellwood is the weakest link on the second line.Thank god Jokinen and Kane got their chemistry working against bruins.

1. Anyone who thinks schiefly is going to bea gracefull Euro smooth skater is crazy. He's gonna be a crash and bang guy. he's gonna scrabblle for every inch just like his mentor. He goes into the hard places and fights. he draws hits and bumps and falls because he's fighting for position. and he often seems to be where he needs to be despite falling and scrabbling.

2.he has smooth hands and succeded at every level of the game, He has only excelled at every aspect of the game he's been asked to work on. Even in our loses at the worlds He was good.USA was stacked. so be it. Russia was at home, and Canada in thier hearts, had already lost the tournament. so they ended up in 4th place. I don't hold those losses on Mark's head.

3.He needs to be on the ice with.......Dare I say Kane?.......I have been Hard on Evander, yet, I honestly would like to see Kane play with Mark. I think they would work. I would stick Antro on the other wing If he plays like he did when he was 100% healty last year. I think that could be magic. Probably next year.

So Yes he deserves to be evaluated for 5 Games If he scores a goal or a good assist in the next couple I think he will still go down. If he wins a Game 1st star or two, has 3 or 4 goals, or even posts stoe cold stolen type saves against him, despite being on a third or 4th line, it will be a much harder decision. He really needs to shine bright or it is not worth damiging his development for a short term fix.

He's 19. 19. Spezza didn't stick at 19. Just because a player hasn't peaked at 19 doesn't mean it's over. There is lots of time.

puting him out on 4th line is brilliant. He can learn the physical aspect While not being 100% relied upon to carry the offfence. That will come. We know he's a scoring centre. TNSE Know it. They want him to be a career Topline Centre.

Someday.

Right now they are banging him around and letting him show what he can do in the limited minutes they can give him. now we see if he can help a couple of 4th liners look better. thereby making himself look better.

I agree with some of the above, but the bolded is somewhat contradictory. He will not score multiple goals or be first star on the fourth line. So, if they are going to give him a meaningful evaluation, he has got to have top-6 minutes and PP time now. I have been in the 'send him back down' camp, but, given how our scoring and PP have suffered, it'd be crazy not to give him a real chance to produce over the next 3 games.

Was I the only one that heard one of the Jets announcers slip and say they are probably keeping him up this year during the Bruins game, think 2nd period.

I don't think the announcer would actually know that... If any of them knew it then they would actually want to break the news... since that's part of their job...

I am amusing Wright will slot in on the 4th, but does Antro stay on the 2nd line?

I want to see Burmi or Scheifele there.

Who's to say?

In my unprofessional opinoin
A) Schiefele
B) Burmi
C) anyone else

as order of who i want to move up to top 6. I'd prefer schief to get the golden opportunity, and the USSR line has been good on its own. Otherwise my prefrence is anything that involved getting schiefele up the chart. I think If antro moves up, schief and burmi would be nice to watch ont he third. I also wouldn't mind seeing burmi get those top six minutes, and having Schief with some players who can actually score would be nice.

I realise it's somewhat contradictory in nature, However that is what he is gonna have to do IMO. He will have to force Noel to give him mminutes by generating a lot with few mins and poor line mates. and to say "He cant do it on the fourth Line" is preposterous. He can so do it. outplay his oponents and score crucial game winning goals? win a star? be the deciding factor in a game? All of those things have been done by 4th liners in the past. It's Rare, It's not easy, but I think that's the point. Because he's so young , and because we have so much time with him he really has to be an Amazing player to force his way on now. Fair? No. but there it is.

He's a nice hard working kid and all indications are that he is extremely commited to making it however he will have to be dedicated and keep working on his skating and overall strength until he can actually finish a shift without falling. He wasn't a standout in the WJC 2 years running.. Maybe next year? Here's hoping!

3 effective games from Mark now, and despite his imperfections he's creating offense.

Many are lamenting the fact that he's not getting enough quality icetime with good linemates, but I'm looking at it as though he's got a spot on this team, and the coaching staff is slowly but surely going to integrate him into the 2nd PP unit and more prime offensive minutes on the top two lines.

As far as I'm concerned, he's proven he belongs in the show. I don't see how going back to Barrie is going to be beneficial, other than to shield him from the rookie hardships that he'll have to face sooner or later.

Exactly, they are not even giving him a chance to show he belongs. They could at least use him on the power play. They would not even give him a chance when they had a power play with 4 minutes left in the game with a 4-1 lead tonight.

They have given him lots limelight and PP time in the WJC the last 2 years and what did that prove? Not ready, needs to get stronger.

If he does stay I see this happening. Coaching staff could have already made up their mind. They might not want to wait till next season and go ahead and get a jump with him in this short season. He's already played a good chunk in the OHL this year.

On a side note, I saw Pavs bailed out Scheif on a highlight. Enstrom held up the guy 1on1 but Scheif wasn't aware enough of the guy coming behind the net. Still plenty of kinks to work out but that's expected.

He led team Canada in goals and was third in points. He was more than fine. His 14 points in 12 WJC games is pretty good.

Little had 2 points in 6 games at the WJC.
Brad Richards had 2 in 7 games at the WJC.
Mike Richards had 10 in 12
Spezza had 12 in 21 games (granted 7 games came as a 16 year old)
Strome has 15 in 12.
Getzlaf had 18 in 12
Carter had 17 in 12

He performed just fine in the WJC compared to some other well hyped team Canada centers.

I see no way he will stick with the big club. He hasn't done anything special in the 1st three games to demonstrate the need to keep him up here. He was playing tonight on a line with Burmistrov and Ponikarovsky and was overmatched by NHL defensemen. I am convinced that he needs to go back for his final year in the OHL and next year will be with the big club in a top 6 role should he improve his strength and size. It is easy for them to replace Wellwood with him should he knock on the door. Wellwood is doing very well but doesn't scream top 6 forward talent. By 2014 Burmistrov and Kane will be another year better, Wheeler/Little and Ladd will be hitting their absolute prime and players like Ponikarovsky/Antropov and Wellwood will be playing on a line together.

I see there being a 0% chance Winnipeg burns a year on Scheifele.

Never noticed him out there on the man advantage, but apparently he got 30 seconds worth of PP time.

He was on the PP for 30 seconds after Winnipeg was on a PK and 30 seconds later Washington took a penalty for cross checking a believe in front of Winnipeg's net. The score was 4-1 early in the 3rd period and there was no harm in playing him there. I do recall someone setting him up in front of the net.

That he was one of the top scorers in the tournament even out of his natural position? Or did you actually not watch any games?
