Scheifele is turning me back into a believer that he will someday deserve a statue here. I was really down on him the last few seasons. He has always had a unique package of size and skill to make plays that not many players in the league can. However, his defensive effort this season is night and day to what it has been the past couple of years. He is making a difference this year in all phases of the game and isn't cheating for offence. There hasn't been a game yet this year where you could question his effort and will to win. Not quite his Stevie Y turn yet, but he's definitely looking the part of a franchise player and leader again. Happy to have him here for, hopefully, the rest of his career and really optimistic about what the team can accomplish.

He’s been a beast so far. Just a treat to watch. Whatever it is is rubbing off on KC as well, much smaller player and he won’t win many board battles, but he is back checking better than ever.

Yeah whatever was ailing him is all gone

Yes, he seems like a different player, in all the right ways. The talent was always there, but he seemed moody and entitled to me, on and off the ice, for the last few seasons. It's hard not to ascribe some of the positive change to getting away from Wheeler's influence, but there are no doubt other factors at play as well. Having Lowry and Morrissey as the new team leaders has created a whole new vibe and he is reflecting that in his demeanor. Winning always helps, so the jury is out until we have our inevitable slump. Here's hoping he has really matured as a person and player, and continues to take cues from his co-captains.

Loving his game again. He has taken to a new level this year. Better than 17-18. His best hockey. Hopefully something doesn't trigger him to start sulking like last year (after simply getting benched for a few minutes). We need him and Connor going strong.

I believe his change in play was/is effected by 3 things. His minutes have gone down, even though he was part of the leadership group, maybe he feels he can finally put his fingerprints on the team. And he has finally matured and realized they need the 200ft player he can be to get a cup.

BUT I was tricked last year, and his play did fall off on the back half of the season. We shall see what Feb brings.

He also signed a very lucrative contract that will fairly pay him for the rest of his career. That likely takes pressure off him.

Agree.
I would phrase it in two words: "no Wheeler".

Imagine my glee to hear Whit on Spittin Chiclets praise Scheifele as a top centre who plays a solid 200ft game. What a crazy timeline we’re living in now.
Because he never was as bad as hfboards brought him out to play. Wheeler and Connor were the bigger problem. A narrative started and people kept rehashing it.

There seems to be something about Scheifele because how he goes the team seems to go. Since it's become obvious that he's injured, the team has really gone off the rails and seems almost unrecognizable. A few examples of when we've seen it before.

In the Montreal series, the Jets played well in Game 1 but got beat by Price's outstanding goaltending. Then Scheifele got suspended for "the hit". The team barely showed up for the rest of the series and got swept soundly. I'm still in disbelief about how that all went down. The games in Montreal were downright embarrassing.

When we played Calgary in the play-in round, Scheifele got injured and the Jets barely showed up for the rest of the series after that. Again, that was embarrassing.

He got injured in the Vegas series, which was hard fought up until that point, and they folded up shop again showing only the faintest signs of life. Bowness had a meltdown.

Any ideas what it could be? Any wild speculation? Anything at all?

The one time the Jets kept on rolling when Scheif was injured for an extended period was back in 2017-18. Wheeler took over at centre and the Jets continued to have an impressive points percentage until he came back. Of course, that team was exceptional...easily the deepest team at forward and on defense in Jets 2.0 history.

Don’t forget:

- The collapse two seasons ago that nearly sent us tumbling out of the playoffs after an amazing start. February/March of 2023 was some of the worst hockey Scheifele has played in a Jets uniform.

-The barely 0.500 stretch in the second half of 2018-19, the season the Jets were pegged as legit Stanley Cup contenders. That was the first moment we started to see the indifference towards defensive play creep into 55s game.

-On the flip side, can’t remember a Jets team as dominant as the 2017-18 one, and also can’t remember a time that Scheifele was playing better hockey.

No wild speculation needed. Your top player and leader would tend to play a heavy role in team fortunes, no? (IMO Hellebuyck as a goalie is in a bit of a different category as a top player and leader).

After Scheiffle’s line changed in n his absence, other teams had some problems figuring out all the new combinations.
We’re sitting ducks for opposition playbooks right now, especially with some newer defensemen still (w)irking on chemistry.
Injuries have, in the past at least, “scheiffled” the deck for us, and Arniel has been cautious to change the order/odour of the day. We’ll see what his true colours are soon….colourfull…or True North..

Maybe Brad Marchand could take a puck off the ankle today vs the Golden Knights.

He's on pace for 63 pts by the end of the season. Scheif has 63 pts right now.
