Also hoping Giordano's presence will rub off on Sandin, Liljegren and even Rielly and make them better defensemen. The apprenticeship under Gio seems to have helped guys like Rasmus Andersson in Calgary.

I think you're seeing that with Lily a lot .. They've always been good as a D pair and it seems that confidence and poise has helped Liljegren's on his own with Sandin

I am seeing it with Lily. He made a couple of very commanding transitional plays last night where he just assertively grabbed the puck, took it through the neutral zone and made a play with an extra little split second delay like he was the field general out there. The kind of pacing and decisiveness and control.

Gio has been a revelation since he got here.

I initially was underwhelmed when we got him at the TDL, but the man has been head and shoulders above anything I expected.

The gift that keeps on giving.......

I think I was expecting him to sign a 1 year deal for 2-3 million this past off season. Glad I was wrong, but he would have still been a bargain. Hope our young stars are paying attention.

He could turn out to be one of those 44 - 45 year old NHL defensemen ala Chris Chelios. Wouldn't surprise me on bit if he plays here past his current deal.
Of all the long in the tooth D that have stayed effective into their 40s, Gio has the least miles on him by far. Started his career in his mid-20s and never had a deep playoff run. He's got less games played than Weber.

I know people appreciate this guy but it's not enough. Total beast and a big reason why the leafs have been winning the last month. The leafs are so lucky to have him. He is rapidly becoming one of my favorite leafs

I appreciate Gio. He's been really good.

What I don't care for is this #traderielly fringe movement. We need both players to go deep in the playoffs.

Still crazy to me that he's a Leaf, he was Mr. Calgary for so long. Love what he brings to the team, ageless wonder and the type of leadership you need imo.

Having this kind of quality and experience on the team is huge. He's the Spezza of defencemen.

Giordano has been asked to be a #1 defenceman for a significant stretch here, and he's done it flawlessly. It's been 8 games or so with essentially 22-25 minutes every game. What a trooper.

It's not new for him. He was #1 in Calgary and Seattle. He was also a captain on each squad. I've always placed additional weight on First Round picks and captains. The former for the pedigree that others saw, the latter for the leadership and experience. He won the Norris in case some forget.

Right away Keefe trusted Gio after.his first game. That speaks volumes. As a pro coach and former player, he can quickly.tell when a.player "gets it". You could tell Gio didn't have any doubts about himself. D Men can play well into their.40s and be even more.effective than he would have been in his second season.

Taking away people's ability to like posts seems like a really bad idea. We can still like them, it's just that we have to quote the post in order to say so which just clutters up the forum. If anyone's listening, consider this an "opportunity for improvement".

Maybe Keefe isn't as dumb as some people seem to think. Just a thought.

Just need to pry away Tanev and we can run 2 first pairs with Sandin-Liljegren to mop up the leftovers.
