Pegula is a huge Buffalo guy. He's also worth $7 billion.

Even if he were to sell (which I think highly unlikely) he'd never let them be moved from Buffalo.

Also moving a team away from Buffalo would be a huge mistake. You would be leaving a strong hockey market in chase of new market that may or may not work out. At least Buffalo shows that with some hope even a bad team draws well there. Unfortunately they have been bad for so long the fans don't have much hope in the team left.

I think we're past the "megathread" category, but I don't think there's any question that, given the right circumstances, the NHL would like to be in Arizona - it is #10 in largest metro areas by population (depends on how yo count it). Only Houston and Atlanta are larger - and the NHL would very much like to be in those cities as well.

Does anyone have the list of all the megathread topic titles. It used to be a tradition that the first post on each new thread would have a list of all the thread titles but that went away at one point.

You would be surprised. He doesn't spend to the cap, he cut a load of staff to save money. Thats not someone trying to win a cup.

If I recall correctly, one mod several years ago declared the Coyotes saga "over" and just about forbid debate on the topic of the Yotes moving. Of course the topic was anything but over, but discussion then continued only piecemeal, and without the Megathread label.

You don't need to explain to me the problem to me and its not overpaying second rate talent.

Its Terry making the decision himself instead of hiring director of hockey operations. He hires inexperienced GMs and uses them as fronts to run the team himself.

Go to the sabres board there is threads and talk of Pegula selling the team.

They relaxed that rule years ago.

If I were a Coyotes fan, the LAST thing I would want is another slap dash relocation of a team from a northern market. Buffalo is basically Winnipeg, USA. They took enough abuse from Jets fans and traditionalists the first time.

Apparently that rule was removed in 2018. That rule only prohibited ownership of teams in other NFL markets.

"The rule, in place for decades, prohibits owners of NFL teams from owning professional baseball, basketball, or hockey teams in other NFL markets. A big reason it was put in place was so that fellow NFL owners, partners in the league, were not pitted against each other and competing for the same sports dollar.

It’s why, for instance, Rams owner Stan Kroenke had to put the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche in a family trust rather than run those franchises himself. The NFL didn’t want him going head to head with Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen in that city, elbowing each other for the loyalty of fans."

Utah HC though seems like it's been a clean-slate re-brand though. Atlanta moving to Winnipeg didn't seem to carry any of the Atlanta-era misery with it either.

I think if you're offered an NHL franchise you take it - whether it's an expansion or a relocation. I know everyone points to Vegas as the reason why you'd want an expansion team - but historically expansion teams are a lot of misery, and Seattle has only been mediocre on the ice.

Yeah after the Ice Arizona deal was approved we stopped having megathreads but it was revived when Glendale voided the lease. But for some reason it was determined that even though the numbering would be kept in tact the revived megathread would be seperate.

taking a team away from buffalo would not be a mistake since even when they are selling out they still lose money. They will never be able to get games in the Ontario tv market which would help a little, Sabres fans complain about their ticket prices even though they are dirt cheap, they have no corporate support like other teams have
