OT: Marek Malik shootout goal on this date in 2005 in the 15th round

Jason Strudwick with the clutch 9th round goal to keep it going

That was almost the craziest part of the whole thing.

I think, I managed to not know the score, so it was almost real when I saw the highlights.

Game is on the line, I go: "Who the f*** is Jason Strudwick!?" and he rips it past Olli.

Kolzig even comments on it, in that video.

Struds was a tough guy 6/7 D who was never very good but played hard, fought, and always did just enough that people could appreciate him despite him being marginal at best. Sometimes he's have good games, too, and we'd all be like, "Woah what's up with Struds?!"

One thing I remember about this team was that we had three defensemen that most people hated: Malik, Rozsival, and Poti.

Rozsival was not hated nearly as much as the other two.

If there's one thing this incident should teach us it's how amazingly talented all NHL players are. You take Malik, who showed virtually zero offensive talent in his NHL career, and could still do that in front of 20,000 people.

By the way, Malik and I have something in common: We're both 1 for 1 lifetime in shootouts.

This. Such an underrated part of that game.

This game was also the only time I've ever sat in a skybox at MSG. (behind the opposite goal). I still remember thinking, "did he just shoot between his legs?" as I watched the puck go in.
